Default QUESTION: LOCATING SPEAKERS ON CC??

Can anyone out there with a center console provide me with suggestions regarding speaker placement?

I've got a 27' CC with two (6" round) Infinity speakers that were pre-installed at time of purchase on the inside walls of the opposing gunwales just ahead of the console, but I'd like to add two more of the exact same speakers somewhere aft, preferrably low on the operator side of the console itself if possible. Any suggestions? Where's everyone else locating their speakers?

Thanks Everybody!

Mine are mounted in the Center Console itself, Good airspace for Clear sound. My cousins boat we mounted the speakers to the access hatches (circular style) that were already in place, makes removing them if needed easy and no need to cut additioanl holes in boat. Also if you wanted to remove them it would cost very little to replace access door.

in the sides, at your hips when you are at the helm is where the majority of your speaker power should go. The others are for "fill":

2nd most important pair is not the front, but the back... for fill:

3rd set should go right in line with the console front seat so you can troll with AP on and be "in" the music:

GLEN:

Its my understanding that I can only push four (4) speakers with my current Poly-Planar unit and I've already got two speakers (pre-installed) on the sides (opposing each other) immediatelylateral tothe consoleitself(not the seats). In other words, they're located on the sides but a bit forward of theleaning post, midway between the operator (the leaning post) and the padded seatimmediately in front of the console (i.e. right outside the access door).

So,since I'm limiting my speaker installation to just two more speakers (not four), I'll need to choose between mounting them:

1. In the center console itself somewhere midway down or even lower(near my feet)

2. On the sides again (just a few feet aft of the other two speakers that already there which would be very near the leaning post).

3.Or pointing forward on the inside of the transom like yours.

Given those choices, which location would you suggest? I guess (unless you feel otherwise),I'm inclined to think transom. ;?

I have mounted sets of speakers on 3 of my CC's and alsways went the helm and front route for 4 speakers. This time I mounted the the same but since I had a 6 ch amp I added a set near the transom. IT TOATLLY AMPLIFIED the sound on the whole boat. And since we fish and spend 90% of our time in the rear, it was just alot better. We have done the same thing on PeytonLac's 33 HS CC with similar results - I vote transom.....

GLEN:

Did you see my edits to the earlier post with respect to options?

1. Console

2. Sides

3. Transom

And do you still feel "transom"?

Unfortunately, I don't have ready access to any meaningful photos at the moment.I can certainly take some this weekend, but that would be the soonest.

However, I think you're transom suggestion is the best overall choice. Like your own boat/install, I've got suitable spots available on the gunwale side of thetwo transom/gunwale corners, and if situated there, theywould give me some good separation from the two existing speakers which are far forward of that area. Agreed?

yes - especially if you can fade the speakers for good fill and balance.....

Reef Ranger

If you can find a pair of speakers like some outdoor ones that you can borrow you could hook those up and move them in some of the locations you were thinking about. It would give you an idea where they would sound the best before cutting holes. Also for the speakers that are mounted forward That should work fine but you could always do a modification by adding a tweeter a little farther back or change the speaker with ones that have an adjustable tweeter that could be pointed torwards you. Just a couple thoughts.

Well, I promiseda follow-up on my stereo/speaker modifications so here it is:

I bought and installed the Poly-Planar IMR-4 (I/O ribbon adapter) and IC-3.5 (waterproof MP3 plug-in) to enable connection/amplificationof my i-River MP3 player with my Poly-Planar unit. And thosetwo items both worked out fine. However, regarding speaker placement,I'm saddened toreport that adding two more Infinity 602M speakerssomewhere aft of the console on my GW-273 simply didn't work out.

I've currently got two Infinity 602s on the inside gunwales (on opposite sides of the center console), but unfortunately, Icould not identify a logical, feasibleplace to installanother matched pair. The inside transom wouldn't work because it leads directly into the livewell . . . the two corners (down low) wouldn't work because of the transom door (starboard) and raw water washdown hose (port). . . and that leaves me with only two possible alternatives (both of which make me uneasy):

(1) On opposite sides of the overhead 'electronics' (so-called 'radio')boxthat sits directly above the centerconsole which leaves me with the backside of the speakers inside the radio box, or

(2) At the foot of the console itself, down near the operators feet (which puts the sound literally).

The remainder of the gunwale area (both sides) is made-up of swing-away doors for locking rod storage, etc., so there is simply is no other place to locate a pair of them as I see it. Any suggestions or ideas? ;?

Yuup, knew you were going to say that! But thanx Glen! I'll try to take some photos of the various areas in mind and get them on here over the next several days.

Okay! Here we go!Glen, you asked for picsso here they are.I'm not sure how well these photos will post (they look pretty lousy from what I can see prior to posting), but I'll give it a rip! There must be some other way to attach photos that I'm not yet aware of. Anyway,Glen, I sent you a PM early yesterday regarding this, but Ihaven't received a reply, soI've gone ahead and posted these photos both for you and others.Anyone else(other than Glen) who cares to respond or provide suggestions, please feel free to do so! I'll be grateful for any advice whatsoever. The question asked? Given the asymmetriclayout (or floor plan) of this particular boat, where can (or should) I locate a matched pair of 6" Infinity602M speakers? Anybody?STARBOARDCORNER: No problem! A single (1) speaker will fit quite nicelyon this right (i.e.,starboard) side lower gunwale, right behind the rod storage area on the bottom left of the dive door (i.e., where the rod tips travel through). There is suitable air space there . . . it's sheltered . . . and the wires can easily be run below deck. However, the same spot on the opposite side of the boat (i.e., the lower port corner) won't work (see next photo):PORT CORNER: There is nowhere in thiscorner that a speaker can be installed due to the breaker panel (and door) and due to the raw water washdown hose. This leaves the possibility of placing the remaining speaker on the inside transom facing forward (see next photo):INSIDE TRANSOM: The problem with this location is that the sound from this single speaker (if instalkled here) would be blocked by the folding bench seat which is collapsed 95% of the time:The only other possibilities would be to locate both speakers (the pair) closer together at the actual console area, either at the . . .CONSOLE FOOT:Or directly overhead of the console, pointing straight down fromthe inside bottom (or floor) of the . . .ELECTRONICS BOX:Any suggestions? Thanks to all!DANG IT! SORRY EVERYONE! THESE PHOTOS ARE "TERRIBLE"! I ATTACHED THEM USING THE "INSERT IMAGE" ICON ON THIS PAGE (VIA CUT & PASTE OF THE HTML ADDRESS FROM MY USER PHOTO ALBUM), AND IT DIDN'T WORK VERY WELL. I'LL HAVE TO FIGURE OUT A BETTER WAY TO ATTACH PHOTOS AND TRY IT AGAIN. MY APOLOGIES.
