Default Simrad v20.2 available for NSS Evo3

Simrad just released their new software, version 20.2. Looks like quite a few updates...Improvement to Radar, Sonar, Fish Mapping, Auto Pilot and a lot more.

Let us know if you install it and things still work. I used to go first, but it usually broke things. I might wait until a few people report back that the update is working well.

I find it very interesting that there is finally connectivity between Evos and the Go series (only 12).

"This release will enable the Ethernet port labeled “Radar” to access Chart and echosounder sources from other networked devices GO12 can now access and display data from the S5100 & SonarHub modules. GO12 can now access and display the echosounder data from another GO12 or NSS MFD that has a connected transducer. GO12 can now access and display chart data from cards inserted into other GO12 units or NSS / NSO MFDs".

GO12 XSE will get full Ethernet functionality in v20.2. This means that sonar and chart cards will be shared in addition to radar and waypoint synchronization which is already supported. StructureScan 3D, LiveSight and ActiveTarget won't be supported. SideScan and DownScan from the StructureScan 3D module are supported.

abbor, do you think this will be the last major release for the NSS Evo3 platform? I’m wondering how much longer we’re going to get feature tweaks versus just straight up bug fixes for the regular Evo3 line that was released 3-4 years ago.

I have no information about for how long Evo3 will be receiving software updates, but I would be surprised if 20.2 is the last.

I downloaded it today, at about 7pm, but I just looked, and like you said, the link is gone. I do know that they sometimes just update their website and it causes links to disappear. I would tell you to check tomorrow, it will probably be back. Probably just a website issue. If it isnt back in a day, then maybe they found a problem and pulled the update.

I've just checked and it's available both for NSS Evo3 and Evo3S.

Just looked and it is back. Also change the release notes the first time I looked at it said would no longer support the older radars I guess pre 2015 processor boxes but that part of the release notes is gone so don't know if it supports older radars or not. Both my processors have the wince updates but not the newest ones and can't seem to find out how to get them updated.

I am going to go out on a limb and assume the the network features are not going to be enabled in the GO9/GO7 units, right? While sharing sonar would be nice, I would be super happy with the ability to share charts or basic weather support for the WM-4.

"Interested in this as well?,

We are in the last 10 days for SIMRAD rebates on the GO series and given the price point I would like get a 9" to pair with my Evo3 to share navioics & cmor charts as well as sonar (using 3:1 and thru-hull) with a newly installed go9.

Don't feel like waiting 3+hrs on simrad tech support this afternoon to get the confirmed answer.....anyone?

I don't expect full Ethernet functionality to be enabled for GO9 XSE and GO7 XSR. If they had planned to do it, it would have been in the same release as for GO12 XSE. GO7 XSR is running running exactly the same same software as GO12 XSE so it would have been there by default if they wanted. I think I understand the reason why it didn't happen, it's technical, but I'm not going to comment any more regarding this.

I kind of figured as much. I am assuming there may be a couple technical issues but if the GO7 and GO12 have the same firmware, I can't imagine it's that big of an issue. I am guessing a part of it is not wanting to cannibalize sales from the NSS series. If the GO7/GO9 get all the same network features as the NSS series, that could steer people to get an additional GO9 instead of a NSS9, etc. I get it, the GO series is a budget line so I can't expect it to have all features especially since Simrad said that the network capabilities of the units were limited from day one. It is nice that they unlocked some units though.

Mildly off topic, whatever happened to being able purchase the "network unlock"? I remember it was mentioned a lot in the past but never really came to fruition.

Thanks Abbor, you're a wealth of knowledge -

Is there any shared functionality from evo3 (connected is 3:1 transducer & thru-hull chirp) or from NMEA backbone (4g radar via R10 interface, GS25, AIS from GX2400, ??). I guess I am confused what I can share/use what I have.

Radar is available for all units connected to Ethernet, NSS or GO. GO has full waypoint synchronization over Ethernet (also with NSS) . GS25 is available for all units connected to NMEA 2000, the same is AIS and DSC .

Ethernet unlock was limited to boat builders.

The 7 and 9" versions of Evo3(S) have more advantages over GO than the 12" versions. 7 and 9" GO have 800x480 screen resolution, 7" Evo3 has 1024x600 and 9" has 1280x720. 12" Evo3(S) and GO units all have 1280x800 resolution. I have or have had 7 and 9" units in both resolutions and the difference is huge. I still have 7 and 9" units with the higher resolution.
