Default Vhf/NEMA messed up wiring??

Hi Guys,

Was hoping to get some info on what I may have done wrong while moving some wires around under my dash. I have a vhf and GPS and Fishfinder all hooked up together, sharing the NEMA feed off the Raymarine GPS. I had to disconnect the wires where they are all tied together to reroute stuff. Thinking I had it mapped out perfectly, Im about 90% sure I hooked everythink back up the same way, color for color.

But now when I key the mic on my VHF, the GPS menu button starts functioning making the GPS scroll through all the menu screens! Kinda weird, huh? I also have noticed that my reception seems much weaker now too, only receiving radio calls from local boats, where as I used to hear "radio checks" all day long.

Sorry if Im not providing enough info, but Im just wondering how a NEMA connection can cause such a strange reaction out of my GPS?

Great Site, Tons of info, hope to stay and learn more. Thanks

Did you change anything with the coax from the VHF. Shorten it, change connectors, anything?

I cant remember, but there is a good chance that I had to undo the bundle/tie wrap job off the extra coax cord under there. Im going to check it out tomorrow, I just dont understand how the TX power from that coax could cause the GPS to act so crazy. Its basically acting as if you were sitting there pushing the MENU button as fast as you can. Pretty weird, but I will check it out.

Thanks

If RF leaks into any electronics it can cause problems. Electronics with keypads use a "scan frequency" for monitoring keypad presses. If RF gets into the equipment, it can interfere with this scan and make it think you are pressing the buttons.
