Default Lowrance X-111 First Use Report

Today was not the first use of the machine but it was the first exrensive use.

We had a great day on Mobile Bay and the delta fishing mush and catching little. I't has been weeks since the weather has been ideal but to day was just super.

First off, I really like this machine. The GPS is a marvel and the large screen makes it super user friendly at speed when you don't want to take your eyes off the course for more than two or three seconds. The installed Nauticpath(?) charts are excellent, too.

The only issue with the GPS is my inability to make the thing operate in a "Course Up" mode. I'll figure it out or ask for help later on that.

The fish finder/sounder is a whole other ball game. This whole business is so new to me that I'm going to need a lot of time to get it sorted out. I simply don't yet know what I'm doing.

Fel free to offer advice.

Thanks.

Did you download the emulator so you can practice on your puter?

Shorty,

No, didn't download the emulator though I tried a few times. I'm connected via dial-up and max speed connection for me is 53.3 Kbps. Somehow every time I tried to download the emulator it didn't work out well. Perhaps DSL is the answer but I'm not yet prepared to pop for that.

Here's a thought. Get a DSL modem to operate "on demand" and get DSL on a kind of "pay per view" basis like on cable. I could go for that.

Butch, from the GPS screen, go into the menu, then map options...you will find the choice there to set "course up".

I've done that several times to no avail. I'll try it again today in the back yard.

Butch,

I know what you mean about the 111. It has so many features on it. When you get the fish finder figured out, let me know. I don't feel comfortable with the adjustments on the transducer.... too much gain...too little?????? Who knows. I feel like I am using only about 5% of the machine capabilities.

But man oh man it is nice......

Navigate to a waypoint first by selecting a saved waypoint and select go to waypoint or use the map cursor and select go to cursor. By navigating to the waypoint or the cursor you have set a course and the course up feature needs a course in order to work.

Doc Samson is right.

If you don't have a waypoint saved, then you want to select "track up"...not course up.

Try heading up. The display will show where you are going at all times - corresponds to what you are seeing

I've got the LCX-104C, your unit's grandfather. It has been a great unit, and the more you use it, the more features you'll discover. Mine is linked to the radar and radio, which is really pretty cool. The odometer and trip odometer features are very useful, especially when you're eay out. Mine is in "course up" mode, and I leave it alone because I probably couldn't get it back. My unit works fine, but I'd still love to upgrade to your HD model so I could link the fuel sensors. The biggest problem I have is that all my fishing buddies point at the screen, and I've always go greasy fingerprints on the screen.

I have had the 111 HD for a year now. I hooked up the EP-10 fuel flow and hate it. I cant figure it out, no owner's manuel and no dowload manual from Lowrance. I am thinking of buying the LMF-400 for information on my fuel flow.

Wish I could help you, pard, but I'm in learning mode.

Suggest a new post seeking help/information. I'm sure you'll get a lot of useful responses.

Good luck.

I am a 111 owner and love it. The big screen is great for a quick look and then get the eyes back out on the water.

When using the Sonar it is best to turn off the Auto Sensitivity and set the sensitivity (Gain) yourself. Out here in the NW we prefer somewhere around 90 to 95 percent. It clutters the screen up a bit, but you also get to see a lot more fish then when it is set lower. Also, take the unit out of the Auto Depth mode and set the depth yourself. Use the Upper and Lower limit feature to fine tune the depth you want to look at and let all of those pixels work in the area that is important. My .02, I hope it helps. MM

i agree with turning the auto depth off. If you have it set to off the ocean floor appears closer to the bottom of the screen and you can see more water. If it is in auto depth the ocean floor is in the middle of the screen limiting the amount of water you can see. i agree with the letting those pixels do their job in the area that is important comment.

This what you looking for?

You also may want to double check the software version you have. They are up to version 1.7.
