Default New Electronics Suggestions....Furuno

Getting ready to order new electronics for the new boat being built. Have been a long time fan of Furuno!

A couple of questions and looking for suggestions:

1. How far out is NavNet 3 away?

2. Is the BBFF3 worth the extra money over the BBFF1?

3. We will have one 10" screen for charts and radar, would we be better to go with the FCV-1100 over the BBFF#? Want two 10" screens.

4. Does Furuno make a cable for connecting the RD30 to NavNet without having to make all the NMEA splices?

5. Navionics or C-Map?

We will also be going with the TR-1 again, two ICOM 504's, Digital Antenna's, Aquatic AV stereo, and JL Audio AMP's and Speakers.

Please feel free to offer any suggestions...other than changing to Raymarine.

Thanks, Chris

I will have to ask about the Navnet 3 but have not heard anything lately. As for the sounder do you need the bbff3? What depth are you running to? BBFF! has lots of power and have had no complaints. I like the Navionics maps for my area but may be different for you. TR1 is the pilot by far. Incredible pilot and works like a charm.

you will have to make connections to interface the RD30 to the navnet, there is not a cable made that just plugs from one unit to the other as far as i know.

personally i would go with the BBFF sounders over a dedicated FCV1100, you will be able to access your radar, plotter, and sounder from either display, so the system will be much more flexible.

the navnet 2s are great units and only a year or so old, i dont see why furuno would release a navnet 3 anytime soon.

I would dump the Digital Antennas for the Comrod due to their strength and durability. Get the BBFF finder and the Furuno 1920C as an aux secondary screen.

If you are stuffing your boat full of Furuno electronics you might as well go with a Furuno VHF as well so everything looks good and matches...kind of like collecting the whole set.

As I recall, when PBR reviewed VHFs they did not include the Furuno VHF in the detailed reviews, instead they included the Icom and mentioned the Furuno VHF was identical to the Icom VHF (re-branded) except for the color and shape of the buttons.

Also, go back and re-read SWFLNav's suggestion about antennas. He is money on the spot with that suggestion.

Isn't the Furuno VHF a copy of a 502 not a 504?

I was told NN3 would be out around Sept of 2007. Their is a connection for the RD30 to your NN without splicing. I went with the C Map only because I have used that in previous Furuno units. Not sure whether the more powerful transducer is worth it or not as I have the BBFF1. Love the TR1 best AP out there. Nice boat.

Not mine.

Vessel has a BBFF1,
Navnets are tied into VEI Military Grade PC with Solid State Hard Drive running MaxSea Navnet Explorer and WXWORX.
602 VHF, 952, and Clarion O/H.
Very Nice
