THE FIRST place I would be would be with BOE electronics . Jim is a forum member and is a great person to do business with and also has great prices . Just go to his forum under vendors and take it from there.

Check e-bay, stuff turns up all the time. Just make sure the impedence matches (i.e. 120 Mhz - 150Mhz, etc.) or the unit won't work right. Your owner's manual should tell you what is compatible with your 'head', if not the xducer manufacturer usually puts that info on the cable somewhere near the connector - look for it. Good luck.

Yup go through Jim at BOE. He has a direct line with the distributor in SC for all the Airmar stuff. I am fairly certain you need a transducer with special circuitry for that Lowrance and you cant just throw any old 'ducer on there.

Got one of the last 111CHDs for $1200 at BW. I purchased the transducer you are talking about at that time for under $250 delivered from an online dealer. Do not remember the name. Just do a search on google on Lowrance and the part number. A bunch of dealers should pop up. http://planetgps.net/lwr10679.html. You must order the THST-DFBL "Blue Connector" transducer. However, I installed this transducer on the transom using a homemade bracket instead of putting a hole in my boat. I get bottom returns to 1800' while drifting and at speeds of +30mph in water less than 60'. I'm sure using it as a thru hull you would have even better results. That transducer is only a 600rms transducer, Airmar's benchmark B744V. Consequently, you will not be able to put your 111CHD in the 1kw power mode. If I had it to do over I would of paid about $800-1000 for Lowrance's B260 equivalent and endstated my fishfinder system.

I bought one directly from Boaters World at the same time I ordered the 111. Price was $272.99 (I receive a discount so I don't know what the straight up price would be). As stated above, it's the Airmar 600 watt unit. It was shipped from Lowrance to BW and had Lowrance and Airmar info on the box. I order straight from the Outer Banks Headquarters - much simpler and quicker than trying to mess with the retail stores.

With the LCX 111c I will be fishing mostly in the San Francisco Bay, Off shore, and in the Delta in depths that don't usually go beyond 80 ft. Is the LOWRANCE THST-DFBL BRONZE TH 106-79 the best thru hull transducer for what I do and is using a thru hull transducer a good choice on an 16 ft tri hull? How do I figure the degree of angle on the hull? I was thinking the LOWRANCE THST-DFBL BRONZE TH 106-79 would be best or is there another one for my situation that offers maximum performence?

Just trying not to cut corners. I fish a ton and recently wanted to upgrade my approach and me understanding of this technology. Thanks ZACK!

Note Below is a pic of a guy from my area giving a white Sturgeon a "chicken peck" at the end of their meeting. lol

As was stated earlier, the Lowrance 111 is capable of 1000 watts rms output, the 106-79 transducer is only capable of 600 watts rms. Therefore, you can only go up to 600 watts with that transducer. In the situations you stated, 600 watts should be more than enough. Didn't your 111 come with a skimmer transducer? If it did, why don't you just use that instead of spending the extra money? If you don't want to mount it on the transom, they can be mounted in the hull with epoxy (Lowrance sells that too). A bronze thru-hull on a 16' boat doesn't make alot of sense to me with the added expense.

After hitting the International Sportmans Expo I had a chance to speak to a Lowrance rep and he echo-ed what many had told me and stated that the Bronze thru hull transducer is far superior to the transome mount that came included. I was also told that this

may be my best option but I am wondering if there is one better that will allow me 1k of power giving me maxium performance or for my type of fishing (80 feet or less of salt water) will it make much difference? Thanks ZACK!

My personal opinion would be, for the conditions you have stated (80' or less), you would be wasting your money installing a bronze thru hull in your 16' boat. The skimmer transducer supplied with the unit should be way more than adequate for your purposes. Just my opinion - maybe someone else will chime in with something I'm missing. I can't believe the Lowrance rep was steering you this way if he knew all of the conditions that you have stated here, unless he was going to sell you the new transducer and make a few bucks.

Hey thanks to all that offered their input. I took your advice Mike and installed the unit as is with the stock tranducer and tonight will be its maiden voyage when I put her in the water for a night of Sturgeon fishing. Sounds like for my purpose it is all I need however, I may go over board down the road when they come out with the new Airmar SS164? Leave it up to guys to always over engineer. lol
