Default Garmin 492C question...

I just had this unit installed. I have only played with it at the dock. I like the fact that the base charts are pre-installed but I was under the impression that you would get a lot more "detail" on bottom contours then just the standard contour lines that show up on a paper chart. I was thinking more like what I have seen on other plotters that show say a depth change from 30-40 fathoms but shows the subtle "humps and bumps" as you move from one depth line to another.

Am I missing something or is this all that the pre-loaded blue chart for this unit will do? I also noticed that if I zoomed in a bit and was looking at the 30 fathom line then moved the cursor back inshore (basically moving to another chart area) that it would not re-load the detail for inshore.

Any feedback appreciated.

Glenn

Did you try going into the map setup tab and turn up the detail setting from the default of "normal" to either the "more" or "most" setting? Detail at the default is rather blah, but when you ramp up the setting, alot more shows up.

No, I did not...thank you. I'll give that a try. I only had a few minutes to play with it but will take your advice and dig a little deeper.

THANKS!

Glenn
