Default Raymarine S1000 Autopilot

I am curious if anyone out there has had any experience with Raymarine's S1000 autopilot? I have a 25' Grady that I use for offshore fishing and am thinking about adding an autopilot. If anyone has used this unit, please give me your opinion.

I am also interested in the S1000 but have a 28 foot monohull with 2 x 225HP 4 stroke Yamahas with Seastar hydraulic steering. I have not yet fitted a unit.

From inquiries I have made, I have heard the performance of the system is very good at speeds greater than say 4 knots - but so good under 4 knots.

Does anyone have any experiences in fitting the S1000 to a boat that is slightly bigger than the specified 25 foot maximum?

Check previous posts and then Jim at BOE. I'm pretty sure the new software fixed the slow troll issues.

I'd be less concerned with boat length, and more concerned with supported systems

* HC5345, HC5347, HC5348, and HC5358 SeaStar steering systems.
* Systems with HC4600, HC4645, HC4647, HC4648, and HC4658, BayStar steering rams.
* Systems with Hynautic K6 steering rams.

I have it on 26' GB and a friend has it on a 26' Sailfish, but i personally haven't used it enough to give a glowing review

I installed an S1000 on a Parker 2320 pilothouse a few months ago. I have been very pleased with the performance down to about 2 mph. Since I only have a short term experience I don't want to be unduly enthusiastic but it was a relatively easy install and has been performing as promised so far. My boat is pretty heavy and the large engine bracket makes the whole rig easily 25 feet in overall length.

Good luck.

i have a 21 boat with Baystar steering with a Yamaha 150f...when I am fast cruising and fully trimmed, the steering is difficult to turn by hand and the s1000 fails to be able to adequetely turn to starboard. Below about 4500 rpm, it will maintain control under all seas, but above that, it isn't reliable. It trolls well too.

I've been running one for over a year and it has never missed a beat. 23 foot boat with a Yammie 200HPDI. Trolls well, all the fancy patterns work with out fuss and it, well, just works. Easily picks up 'Go Tos' from the Raymarine C120 and I'm very happy with it. The pump is a bit noisy but at least I know it's working. I waited for years for a unit to appear that did not need a rudder reference arm (not a happy bed mate with an outboard IMHO) and bought this unit just after they had fixed the software to cope with slow trolling. I'm a happy punter and would reccomend it.
