Default XM Satellites vs Sirius in orbit

I've been looking into what makes one system better than another and my Sirius Rep sent me a link to check out. If you dont know already XM has 2 satellites Rock and Roll in a geostationary orbit over the equator. Sirius uses 3 satellites in geosynchronous orbit that always cross each other over the US. When you look at the picture below you'll see for yourself.

XM has a more consistent signal in the souther US and their satellites are a better design (this from a friend who launches satellites for OSC out at Vandenberg, CA). Plus Sirius is going to get bought out by XM soon enough, so it won't matter anyway ;-)

Will the feds allow XM to acquire Sirius and create an absolute monopoly?

SWFLNav – I have been sitting here watching those sats orbiting for almost 6-hrs now and they never crash into each other. They get close, but never crash. Why is that? ;?

I have a feeling Sirius will be buying out XM. Sirius sales are way up, XM is down, either way their are some laws that will need to be re-written

It's amazing that your REP gave you that INFO when it's been on the web for a good while.

Who's buy who, it doesnt matter to me. Sirius is really cleaning up the good stuff. Howard Stern (if you like him) Bubba the love sponge, Nascar, NHL, NFL, Maxim, Playboy etc... I've had XM for years but the playlist on Sirius just seems to be allot better than XM. EYEBALL, you have to watch for 6.1hrs before the satellites hit each other.. see you just missed it

We don't "know" this.

What we do know is that Sirius is selling more radios than XM everyday.

You better check your ant, or unit. I'm in PA also, been all over the state. i get a constant reading of 3 bars. In the city I will sometimes see 2 bars if I'm between building or going under a bridge.

SWFLNavigation- Been considering satellite for my boat. Shopping around and have some idea on what to get. Your info is interesting. What "rep' told you this info since I haven't seen you on 'authorized' dealer listings?

Sirius is adding us to their list as we speak. If your at the Miami Boat show you can ask the Sirius reps yourself if were authorized. As for your boat, if you are looking for a stereo to control Sirius we recommend Clarion CMD4A, M455A, Kenwood KTS-MP400MR.

Trade Winds. Mike with swflnavigation knows his stuff about this. He does custom jobs and stands behind his work. I have sent people his way before for custom stereo applications and such. He is legit as I would send him anyone I know.

Sirius is better than XM in my experience. Just my 2 Cents.

In Regards to the music end of things, I have heard both, and both have dropped out. I do appreciate the Sirius lineup more though...Stern and the Podcast lineup on 102 are great! Does anyone have any experience with the XM marine forcast system??? I have been rather intrigued with this, but I'm skeptical of their "realtime" updates.......Thoughts?

I have the Garmin 3210 with XM weather, and it's awsome. The realtime is definitely real.

I have the full mariner, and the cloud cover is spot on for example. I highly recommend this feature, it's one of the most important safety tool you can have. You ahve NORAD data real time, and from what I have been able to see there is maximum 10 minutes delay. which is totally acceptable.

Great to see storm coming, cells, wave heigts, pressure, wave periods etc..

The perfect thing to have if you don't have a radar like me, or the perfect complement of a Radar since you can have the weather for the whole country so range is basically unlimited.

I have to agree...was nice fishing today off Ft laud and watching bad weather coming on Garmin XM in from the keys and being able to fish until the real time data said it was time to come in....amd make no mistake - Mike groves at SWflnav is the real deal......one thing I don't like: controlling XM/cablle radio off the garmin...would much rather have it off the CMD head unit...don't like having to toggle my screen for radio changes....
