Default Northstar m121 replacing Navman 8120?

I am still actively looking at large screen multi function displays for my boat. The Navman 8120 and Northstar m121 have my interest. I questioned a dealer of navman and northstar about the price difference in the 2 units and the fact that they are so alike (read made by same company). His response was that the Navman 8120 will soon be discontinued by the parent company and Northstar m121 will continue to be manufactured. He even went so far as to state that he can no longer order the Navman 8120. Hard to believe since it just came out but the only real difference seems to be the name on the cover. Doubt if the manufacturor will offer that fact to the public if it is true. Anyone heard rumors of this yet? Might make a tough decision easier.

The Northstar m121 IS the Navman 8120.

Northstar and Navman are owned by the same parent company (Brunswick) and I'm assuming that they are looking to use the name recognition of Northstar to sell these units here in the US.

If you went to the New York Boat SHow you'd have seen a number of the smaller Navman units now re-branded with the Northstar name. I've got bot a Navman Tracker 5500 (chartplotter) and Fish 5500 on my Aquasport and saw both these units with the new Northstar logo. Can't recall the new model numbers.

I've had good luck with the Navman units and will now look to get either the Northstar m84 or m120 to mount on my Albin - I think you'd be making a good choice.

I recall reading that only Northstar will be marketed in the US. I guess they are pulling Navman out. Still the same products though.

I saw an ad for the Northstar and it looks to be the exact same unit. Just the name on the cover. You will like the 8120 (or M121) whichever you get. Navman had a special running for awhile, not sure if it is still going on. If you bought the 8120 you could send in a form and get a FREE C-Map Max chip. I got mine and it is great. I have a garmin on my flats boat and the C-Map seems to be actually better.

Doug Sea is right. Northstar has the name in the US so it was decided to do a single brand approach. Navman is still staying in the rest of the world where the Northstar name is unknown. Some parts of the world both will be available.
