Default antenna splitter

Can anyone tell me if the Shakespeare antenna splitter, UHF to regular stereo, actually works? I want to add a stereo but need to figure out a antenna for it as well. Thanks.

huntrig,
I recently installed a Shakespeare antenna splitter on my downeaster style boat with pilot house. AM-FM stereo CD works fine with good long range reception from Shakespeare Galaxy VHF antenna mounted 6' + above water line. VHF range doesn't seem to be affected. I DID call Shakespeare technical assistance and ask if range is reduced. The answer was YES, anything in the antenna cable will cause range reduction but they say the amount is slight. Boat is used primarily on Lake Hickory in NC. Lots of hills around the lake to affect FM and VHF performance so I am happy.

I tried one....it wiped out my VHF range. Took it off and bought a separate 8' antenna for the AM/FM. I can now pick up just about any AM station on the East Coast.

Some people have had decent luck...I may have just had a bad splitter. I feel better having separate antennae though...you never know when you are going to need that VHF range.

Thanks for the feedback, I had one years ago and had no luck with my FM reception.
