Default Need Stereo Recommendation

I have a 2005 22' WA Sea Pro and would like to install a stereo (CD Player) and speakers or have one installed.

I would like to hear any recommendations on either name brands or reputable folks who do a good job.

TIA

Depends on your budget but the more common head units for marine use of good quality are Clarion, Poly Planar, and Aquatic AV. I have an Aquatic and very satisfied. Mine also plays DVD's which can show on my chartplotter.

Regarding installation, depends on where you live.

I would put a Clarion in the cabin and a wired remote on the dash.

I have a Clarion CMD4A on my boat and am very happy with it. The sound is excellent through 4 speakers. I have a set of Inifinti Kappa 6.5" and a set of PolyPlaner 6.5" speakers. The Infiniti's sound much better.

Clarion is releasing the CMD5 soon.

C Crew, it seems the new trend is an mp3 player (iPod of equiv) instead of a CD player. Glen has info on how to set that up in a boat.

6.5 Infinity Kappas sound very good for the money (<$100).
Currently have a Sony head unit - sounds good but reqd service.
If I had to do it over again - I'd go Kappa speaks and would try a Clarion head unit.

What type of chartplotter do you have? Can I do that with my Garmin 2210c?

Only the Garmin 30xx and 32xx series (except the 3205) have video inputs.

If you go clarion get the new CMD5. It will play MP3 CD's. The CMD4 will not.

If you decide to go Aquatic you will also be happy. Poly Planar is OK but too many add ons necessary for aux input, amp, etc.

While you could go MP3 straight to the amplifier as suggested I still enjoy having am/fm available. I dont regret getting a head unit. If you dont listen to Radio at all then I would strongly suggest going the MP3+amplifier route. Dont bother with CD's.....too much trouble on the water.

My set up is

Aquatic DVD
Aquatic 4 channel amp
Aquatic 7.5 coax in ebox firing down
Aquatic 10" sub
Ipod 80gig playing through radio
Wireless remote (sucks, cant wait until they upgrade to RF from infrared for better range)

I have an Aquatic AV CD player (plays MP3 and has additional input for Sat/MP3) as well as Aquatic AV 6.5 inch speakers. I am serious about sound quality and was not expecting much from the install, man was I surprised. It sounds excellent. I have the radio installed in my electronics box (hangs from top) and the speakers installed firing downward from electronnics box. By mounting it this way, I can hear it at speed. I thought about a second pair of speakers but ave not gotten around to it yet. I would definitly buy the Aquatic stuff again.

The one thing I do like better about the Clarion is the knob volume and the display but the Mute is very effective on the Aquatic.
