Default Opinions on Eagle

I'm looking hard at the Eagle 2000C DF SeaChamp. Boaters World has them on clearance for $499.00. My previous FF was a Lowrance LMS350 and I was happy with it, but just wondering what others think about the Eagle brand and this particular unit. I know they are made by the same company.

Can't comment on particular reliability. Typcially, has been a brand marketed to the in-land freshwater boater and fisherman. Just about all companies are trying to expand the footprint of their brands and move into other markets. Ex. Garmin to freshwater/inland; Humminbird to coastal/saltwater.

Since Eagle is made by lowrance it should be good but for a few bucks more I would go with the lowrance.

I have the SeaChamp 1000C and like it. It has nice features and holds dephts to at least 1000 feet (on my boat). Its great bang for the buck!

I ran an Eagle SeaCharter 320 for years, and it did good. Five years ago, it was the same price that you're looking at, and didn't have the color screen, but otherwise, it was a full-featured unit. For what it is - a great value. It marked fish far better than the Humminbird sonar that was installed, or the Garmin I tried.

I had only one problem with the Eagle system during the duration, where the factory sent me a replacement transducer for free. With what I've learned recently here, that may have been due to having the transducer running dry.

I bought that unit from BW for Christmas and love it!!!

Freshwater use only but so far it is awsome. Then bought the GPS module from Lowrance and have the full system for about 400.00 less than I could have gotten it.

i am pretty sure you can buy the GPS for it. It is a GPS unit, it just doesn't come with the antenna. I think you only have to buy the antenna

I did not see anyone mention this, so I will. The one functionality that lacks in Eagle vs. Lowrance (same co) is the NMEA connectivity. This means if you wish to connect your GPS to your DSC vhf radio, you can NOT do so with eagle. If you do not need this feature then you can save a lot over the lowrance.

The Eagle Seachamp 2000c CAN BE interlaced with your DSC radio. It requires a separate cable from LEI that must be plugged into the speed sensor hookup port but it will feed 183 data to the DSC radio for you GPS logging track info or enable you to share 183 data with any other compatable device that accepts this data.

lowrance tech just told me the eagle seachamp is not nmea compatable and the lcg 2000 antenna will not work and also they said the connectors are different. You must buy the Eagle 12W antenna part # 112-12 $228.00
BUMMER I was about to buy an antenna from a lcg 2000 unit at a good price

Nothing wrong with the Eagle Brand. As stated earlier it is desgined around the freshwater market. If you don't need the NMEA 2000 to network and the unit has enough power to read at the depths you are commonly at, then why not save yourself some money.

The LGC-12W is what I bought. It is the same as the eagle version, just easier to find. Got mine from Boaters world brick front.

Still waiting on the new Navionics 07 Premium chip though. ;?

Your Lowrance tech must be mistaken. I have the Seachamp 2000 on my boat with a lgc antenna on it & it works just fine. not only that, it is interfaced with my Raytheon Radar & icom vhf using the nmea interface jack on the back of the unit.

Ipurchased the boat last year & it came with a seachamp 1000 which I intended to replace because I figured it was a low end unit. After using it for a few fishing trips, I was impressed. When I upgraded the electronics package this winter to suit my style of fishing, I replaced the 1000, with a 2000. Even though you can split screen the unit I didn't care for that & wanted a dedicated unit for bot FF & GPS. I also bought the $99 chartpack & had my installer due the nmea interface. What your tech may have been confused by is the 4 wire requirement (older interface) Eagle used on these models. They need a pair of wires to send information, & another pair of wires to recieve information. The newer nmea interface can send information both ways over a single pair of wires. My radar & vhf both had a compatable interface so it worked out well for me.

I think the disagreements here are about NMEA 2000 compatibility. The Eagles are NMEA compatible (1000 and 2000), but not "NMEA 2000". However, they will still interface fine with DSC radios using the old NMEA standard. I have a 1000 unit that is interfaced with my Standard Horizon DSC VHF and it works just fine.

As for reliability, I had a keypad problem, but sent it in and they replaced the unit.

I may go and look at the 2000 model at BW. I been wanting to upgrade.

fB Coach,
You may want to check with Jim at BOE , last week I purchased a new
LCX 25 with 7" screen and 200 t/m ducer for $497. I will use this
with my existing LCX 26 HD DF with GPS. I have been well pleased
with the power and functionality of the lcx 26 and will use it for map
ping and then use the new lcx 25 for sonar.
