Default Garmin Bathymetric Charts: Bluechart vs G2

this has come up before, but i finally took the time to ask Garmin and thought i'd share what they said:[*]exact same data in the two charts, including wreck information[*]main difference is in presentation (appearance)[*]G2 charts are 'layered' differently for smoother panning and faster redraws[*]when a mixture of G2 & bluechart cards are in the same machine (eg G2 navigation card, bluechart bathy card), it defaults to the G2 card where data overlaps. the G2 card would have to be turned off (or removed) to view the bluechart data in these overlap regions.[/list]
here is a screen shot of the same area in bluechart bathy first, followed by G2 bathy:

What about if you have both cards being G2 does it also defaault back to G2. I have both chips in my machine(3210) and i only really notice the Bathy G2 when I zoom out. Also I notice that only in certain ranges it reads from the card, it reads alot from the internal memory. . I do like the pics that are included on the cards.

it sounds like you have to turn off the internal maps of the 3210...but ask them to be sure... email: cartography@garmin.com

I had asked the same question by email to Garmin last week and just got off the phone with them. the rep indicated that the G2 chart will be 3D and similar to Raymarines. he did say that the G2 geography will only be viewable in depth areas of 500 meters (1500 feet) or less. That is ok for me

I tried turning off the internal map but the unit slows down and I also noticed that the internal was more accurate than the card. It seems the card is about 10 ft off on the markers. I was going to Garmin for advice but I have not had a chance yet

OUCH! That would be shocking to say the least. How do you know it's off? put your cursor on one of the markers (soit highlights)w/the internal maps ON, write down the exact lat/long, then repeat w/the internal maps OFF. if they're not the same and the charts are the same revision, then there is something seriously amiss. but i'm guessing they are going to be the same. as far as the unit slowing down, that's weird.

It seems the card is about 10 ft off on the markers.
I thought GPS accuracy was ~15', so 10' would be within the margin of error... ;?
