Default WX WORX Pics weather

Its a windy day so I thought I would share some XM Weather Pictures from our XM WX Worxs receiver. This is the XM Weather receiver for PC based systems on vessels or at home. The system connects by using a USB connector and 12V to the receiver.
This first picture shows a rain storm off of Miami this morning. By clicking with a mouse on the rain you can get the intensity in BDZ. Clicking on the pink arrows gives you information in the top left about the storm. The red and white flags are buoy and weather station reports

Selectable Marine forecast Zones. Just click in the box to get the weather report for that area.

Example

Zoomed Radar Over Land

Buoy Reports with Fronts turned on

Surface PSI and temp by clicking anywhere on the screen. Wind direction and speed

Zoomed out pics

Wave Heights, click anywhere to get wave height. I have my waypoints turned off but you could see all you fishing spots and heights.

The information here is way more data than what you would get with our standard Garmin XM package. Hope you guys found this interesting.

Hella good stuff!!! Thank you!!!

I think the WXWorX and the Garmin subscription to XM WX costs the same, correct?!?

Between the two, do you have a preference? I.e., your WXWorX stuff is PC based so you get a bigger screen, which counts. Any preferences for stuff like that?

Yes they are the same. The PC based system is way cooler. Being able to click on an area where your waypoints are and get temp, wave height and wave period exactly where you want it. This PC based system uses a round pixel instead of the square ones used on the Garmin system. We have sold this system to local emergency management for use during hurricanes. I would like to see systems like this standard are larger plotters for safety reasons. The PC based system really blows away the Garmin based system. Check out their online demo at http://www.wxworx.com/marine/demonstrations.php

Having nothing but desktop and a laptop how much would it cost to get all of the components necessary?

Do you have a suggestion for a platform (rugged notebook, etc) that can be used realistically on small open boats (CC's & W/A's) ?

pretty slick, i like how you still get the 'bare bones' service through the winter when you suspend your marine subscription. on second thought, i'm already addicted to the noaa graphics at work, i don't need any more distractions!

A couple, it depends on the vessel. We've used the small dell computers with waterproof monitors and a bluetooth mouse. Companies like MARINEPC.COM make water resistant computers. Im using a MACBOOK PRO with Windows installed that I keep in a pelican case when not needed. On W/A the laptop or pc can be installed downstairs with a video output can be integrated into a video input on a Garmin, Raymarine or Furuno. The wireless mouse makes the selections for you. My dad has this on his motorhome latop when traveling and uses it during hurricane season when all public data is down. Hope this helps
