getting ready to install new gps and ff should I put them on a switch? Also would you wire to trolling motor battery or to cranking?

it is on a small skiff. I have two empty switchs on the panel that are fuse protected. Didn't know if I should straight wire or thru switch. have heard of corrosion problems if straight wired? this is my first gps and want to do it right

I had my bow depth finder wired into the trolling motor battery on my bay boat, and found that when I cycled the trolling motor it affected the depth finder. I ran a wire back to the fuse panel, and the problem is solved. Based on that experience, my advice would be to dedicate the trolling motor batteries to the trolling motor, and keep the depth finder and gps powered from the fuse panel.
