Default GSD 22 Sounder Problem

My GSD 22 acted up on me a few weeks ago - it started reading erratically and then just shut down reading nothing but indicating a "-1.5" and white screen for depth.

It is either a software problem or black box problem - it is not the Transducer as I have installed a new working transom mount and a shoot thru and they all read the same - -1.5…no corrosion or network problems....gonna reinstall the software later and call tech supp...

Any ideas - The rest of the system performs normally and the system tab shows sounder is working normally….

Does the 22 have the indicator light near the connectors??? We just replaced a GSD21 that was brand new and it was bad out of the box. We had no indicator light and no sonar function at all. I checked it and found that the light wasn't working. We checked and made sure we had power and all of the connections correct before swapping it. With the new one installed the system works fine.

Glen, how do you like the GSD22? I was thinking of getting one. I have the GSD 20 now and was wondering if the differences was worth the change. Thanks and good luck on your fix.

Try this: Load the boat with fishing tackle, drinks, maybe some food. Lower it in the water and proceed towards the inlet. My guess is the at some point between your house and the inlet it will begin to work flawlessly. I know I know... I've been called worse...

Beyond that, it could've been a loose connection? The black box or the Garmin head unit may have just needed a few minutes to ID and communicate with the new ducer? Glad it's working though

Glen E - Just as a point of information, what transducer are you using? I ask because of an article I skimmed in Sportfishing magazine showing the difference the transducer can make. I am using Garmin's $65 transom mount transducer with temperature and I wondered if you had any idea what transducers would work any better coupled to a GSD-22? I should add that initially I had problems with my GSD-22 losing the bottom when in depths over 140'. I had the boat out this weekend in 90' and never lost the bottom.
Thanks, Team Ruby

Did you check the LED status indicator lights on the GSD-22 itself? As I recall, there are three codes: slow blinking green (all OK), slow blinking red, and fast blinking red. That might give some idea of where the problem is.
