Default GPS flushmount problem

Recently I had to remove flushmount GPS from my Sea Hunt center console dash and return to Garmin to correct a fairly common problem of internal screen fogging.. It seems that dealer embedded GPS in some kind of black colored sealant when he originally mounted the GPS. The sealer hardened and made it a messy job to remove the GPS and in fact resulted in the rear of the case being damaged. When I remount the GPS I am looking for a recommendation on how to go about it so it is easier to remove next time. My questions, specifically, are should I use a sealer between GPS and dash and if so what kind of sealer should I use.

the unit should have or be able to obtain for the unit a piece that is basically a gasket made for that, if not i would use a silicone clear caulk that way it seals and can be easily trimmed to perfection and easily taken off if needed.

I used no sealent at all. I have a Ray 120. Not sure why you would want to seal it anyway?

The Ray units come with a gasket as most units do. Some units do not have gasket material when mounted. I use a clear silicone so its easy to get it out if need be if no gasket is provided.

Ditto. A thin bead of clear silicone - no adhesive. I use BoatLife

I have a Garmin flush mounted and I do not remember there being any recommendation for a sealant or a gasket in the flush mount instructions. Just the 4 pegs and washers and nuts for the back.

I purchased some soft rubber window sealant from home depot and will post the name of it tomorrow. I stuck it to the console and when the plotter is torqued down it forms a tight seal so no water can get behind it.
