Default 406 Mhz EPIRB

I heard something about having to change to the 406 Mhz EPIRB and that the Coast gaurd will no longer monitor the older EPIRB frequency, effective 1/1/07. Is this true?

Yes. Well, Feb 1st 2009 is when they will stop processing the distress calls from the 121.5/243MHz EPIRBS.

Thanks. I will go ahead and replace my old 243 Mhz with a 406 Mhz. I fish offshore up to 80 miles with a single engine plus auxillary. 35 miles are my short days. It is nice to know that when I flip the EPIRB on the calvary will come......I hope.

Its best if you upgrade. The 406 is much better than the 121.5, and deffinitly more reliable...
