Default Garmin 1242XSV Plus with GT54UHD-TM Transducer

I recently purchased a boat that came equipped with a Garmin 1242XSV Plus paired with a GT54UHD-TM transducer. Iíve only had the boat a little over a month and everything with the sonar seems to work okay except I only get the 455 kHz option on SideVu and not the 1200 kHz option. Itís my thinking that the GT54 may not have been the best transducer for this unit but itís already installed and I was wondering if the GCV20 would help give me the UHD (1200 kHz) settings in SideVu? Also are there anymore issues I may encounter using this transducer with the 1242? I fish inshore in less than 50ft of water almost exclusively in both salt and brackish water. I know the 1242XSV only has one transducer port but would adding the GCV20 allow it to use two transducers or would I still be limited to just one. I'm posting here looking for additional information because I've contacted Garmin twice and unfortunately got two different answers on whether the GCV20 would work with the 1242. Thanks in advance for any advise you can provide.

Unfortunately I do not think you can.
The GCV 20 appears to only support the GT30/34/36.
The GCV 20 would leave you the sonar port open though, as it plugs into your Ethernet. So it would allow you have two transducers.

But it does not seem to support the GT54. The new 743/943/1243xsv do fully support the 54, but not the 1242xsv.

The 1242xsv should run the GCV20, but the GCV20 will not run the GT54 it seems. Their website says the GCV20 is compatible with the 1242xsv. But not with the GT54.

The 8600xsv support the GT54. Oddly though it does not appear the GSD25 currently does even though it is basically the same sonar from the 8600xsv. Maybe a software update will fix this?

So unfortunately it seems the cheapest and easiest way would be to get a new 743xsv.
You could network that to your 1242xsv, and have an extra sonar port.

I find this helpful, https://www8.garmin.com/marine/PDF/t...tion_guide.pdf

Thanks for the information GregMachy. Not sure what I want to do yet but it appears from the link you included that a GT51 or GT52 would have been a better choice for the 1242.

Looks like Garmin wouldíve made the GCV20 compatible with the GT54 but for now they havenít. Glad itís working good with the GT34 for you and that youíre able to use two transducers.
