Handheld VHF = ICOM M93D and Horizon HX890NB
#1

Hey All - Happy Thanksgiving everyone. I'm planning on buying a handheld VHF during the holiday sales and am deciding between the ICOM M93D and Horizon HX890NB. Does anybody have experience with either of these models and an experienced based POV on which is better? It would be a backup to my fixed radio. Thx in advance, all constructive thoughts welcome.

Not sure about the Icom but I have an 890
Happy with it, accurate GPS, 6W vs 5W, good battery life
I've dropped waypoints in it, taken it back to my boat and plugged them in and they were spot on
Start up screen in cold weather has very little contrast. It needs to be on for a few minutes to see the screen properly
All the functions are menu driven so it takes a few button pushes to get things done but I think they'll all be like that
I'd buy it again

I also was waffling between the two, I went with the SH 890 based on price and rebate. Haven't used it much as it is a backup to my fixed mount. I don't think you can go wrong with either one.
FWIW, I got the rebate check back super quick.
