Default Garmin G3 and G3 Vision Charts (New Update V2021.0)

Interesting article in regards to the Garmin G3/G3 Vision Charts on the new V2021 update. I updated a couple of days ago some added features. You can really see the product interaction between the Navionics and Garmin chart sets I run both at my helm (Plat + & G3 Vision).
When the atrticle opens click on the new Heat Map picture or embedded link.

The Heatmap provides a visual representation of the quantity and the position of all the updates made in the last two years. It illustrates how dynamic and thorough the Navionics database is and the amount of work we put into it. All these updates have been brought over into the Garmin charts.

Garmin Article G3/G3 Vision Charts (released September 30, 2020)

That's good since the Garmin Vision chart was lacking Navionics data. Hopefully the are equal now for the price I paid for that chip. Do you know what the process is to update the G3 vision? I think I get one update within the year of purchase.

I appreciate that link. I am in Tampa Bay area and have Lowrance now and getting new boat with Garmin system. I have been questioning that decision as I've heard the charts were not as good with Garmin in my area since they are a closed system. Great to hear that they are incorporating Navionics data now as that is what I am currently using. With that said, do you think they are now on par with their maps with Simrad, etc?

WASTE OF MONEY for Jupiter/ Stuart. Basically no shade relief inside the 120 and laughable coverage over fingers

I bought Mid Atlantic version of G3Vision 2 or 3 months ago. Will they update to the new version for free or for a small fee since I bought so recently?

Spoiler

Kendal .....

I running the same area you are I updated while there are improvements some are not complete. Wait to update until the next version is released 2021.5. The are embedding the Navionics Sonar Charts into the G3 Vision ones put it's only about 20% complete. They will display when you selected Fish Charts.

My recommendation is WAIT.

The new Layer is called Sonar Relief Shading

Kendall .... here’s our area for comparison note these are Navionics images the Relief Shading & Sonar Relief Shading are fully functional in the Plat + charts ... Relief Shading is a Garmin product Sonar Relief Shading is a Navionics product and only about 20% complete in the V 2021 G3 Vision chart update.

Some screen shoots.... color is Garmin blue is Navionics

I have the 2020 release of the charts for NC. The Relief Shading for Southern NC is pretty decent. North isn't so detailed. Can someone post a picture of the chart 40 miles off Wrightsville Beach? I already used my free update and don't want to make that investment unless it has been improved. Thanks

I noticed some of you were saying that the Navionics data will be embedded into the 2021.5 release from Garmin Blue Charts. . From what I'm seeing, you have to purchase the Navionics and the blue chart updates for your region? The Navionics chip for NC is $199 which would be worth it if the Sonar Relief Shading was more detailed than the Relief Shading from Garmin. Don't mind investing in this but there is never a clear understanding on the detail from Garmin. However, if this is going to be a part of the Blue Charts updates in the future, why purchase another card from Navionics? I wish they would provide some descriptions on what improvements were made to warrant purchasing updates.

So I fish West Palm to Miami out of Boca Inlet, upgraded in March and now these are out. No inexpensive upgrade path and I should wait as no real difference until after the 2021.5 release?

Yes, Navionics data has been embedded the the G3 Vision and G3 charts beginning with the 2020.0 release as is Garmin data embeddd in the Navionics charts. They keep adding more features as they are programed in.

Tom
