Default Icom M400BB (Does it need an external speaker?)

I have two Icom M400BB vhfs specd for my new boat. (36 Yellowfin)

Are the speakers on the ram mic loud enough on their own or do they need an external speaker. The icom website is rather vague.

I have one on my Whaler an external speaker is nice to have it depends where you are going to mount your mics.

10/4 which speaker did you buy (I see Icom has a few options) and do I need one for each radio? I am installing two. Thanks 🙏

I have my mic mounted down near my steering wheel. It works, but I am constantly picking it up to listen better. I want an external mic, but haven't decided where I want to mount it yet. For now, I just deal with it. If it were mounted higher It might be enough. I don't have an electronic box overhead so its mounted low.

Here's what my ICOM external speaker sounded like when connected to my previous ICOM 504. It is well worth the cost.

I was about 20 miles offshore when I used the Sea Tow automated radio check system.
