Default Airmar B164 Question

Is it possible for a transducer to just get old and lose sensitivity?

Even in shallow water Iím noticing itís difficult to hold bottom and offshore I donít mark bait or fish like I used to.
And I wonít pick up bottom at all in the deep.

My B164 has been great to me, probably about 10-12yrs paired with garmin 5208ís and a gsd-22, but recently it seems like itís on its way out.

Any ideas?

The B164 is a early flush mount design...it used 3 B60 style elements for both 50 and 200 kHz...instead of dedicated elements for each band.
And yes, it can lose sensitivity as it ages.
Add to that....the GSD 22 is a very marginal unit...the GSD 24 much better.

fyi, i'm having a b164 removed from the boat hopefully this week. ducer is just a year old but doesn't give me the bottom detail im looking for in 600-1000 feet of water like i want. the ducer is connected to furunotzt2 mfd right now but i believe there is a pigtail you can use to use it with a garmin. otherwise , it'd be pretty easy to pop one out and install the other in the exact same hole. anyway, i'll be putting this unit up for sale as soon as it comes out. will save you a bunch of time and $ i think if you went this route especially if you liked what you had working before. pm if you have any interest
