Hi, would anyone know if i could charge my 3 x 12volt 120amp hr .AGM batteries on my Minn Kota during 2 hour trips home from fishing. My Volvo d3 has a 180A Alternator and i have a Blue sea control that tops up the starter battery first then clicks onto the house after a short while. When it allows the House battery to charge is there some way it could help out the 3 Minn Kota batteries as well . If possible can AGMs charge on same system as the ordinary boat batteries or could i do damage to the vovo electrics and the Minn Kota electrics, I would isolate power to the Minn Kota while underway and charging as the charging shows over 14v , might fry something somewhere? On a marina and don't like leaving a charger going when not there so this would help heaps if possible.Any ideas would be welcome thank you.

There is Minn Kota's own "Alternator Charger"

- the Yandina Trollbridge 36 - (although I see it has a "100 amp" rating -
I can't say if in practice, that would actaually be a concern)
https://www.yandina.com/troll36info.htm
possibly, the "Stealth" system
although their website leaves much to be desired

Minnkota charger is only 10A. That isn't going to do much unless you're running long distance. I had a Stealth system before. Not a fan of charging a 36V battery bank in series. You need to rotate the batteries on a interval if you want to optimized battery life. I think the Yandina is the best thing going now. Each battery is charged individually and the system can take advantage of the full alternator output of most larger engines. With a simple toggle switch to force enable/disable of charging, the system is quite good.

Thank you Dustin Wading Mark .Yes i think you right . charging individually is better. Can you leave the series connected for the minn kota while charging individually?

If it is better to charge two or more batteries separately (in lieu of in series) I am wondering why a battery is not set up so that each cell could be charged separately, instead of being in series with the other cells?
This might be particularly so in the case of a 24 or 36 volt battery.
One cannot be too careful when charging batteries.
