Default Lofrans Windlass Motor

I have a Lofrans Project 1000 that needs a new motor. I have contacted Imtra, but have not heard back from them. Anyone has an idea who has parts for these windlasses?

Does it need a new motor or just brushes? If brushes, you can try a good marine starter/ alternator rebuilder. OTT, I would go new, as the gearing will probably fail in a short period of time.

Brushes are fine, first thing I checked. The gearing is like new as I checked that as well. The windlass is from 2007, but the motor is from 2014. So I’ll replace the motor when I can find it.

I did get an email from them finally. However, they wanted $920,- plus shipping. So, I ordered it from France for $400,- delivered to the door. Go figure....

Duh, the morons in the US think they are running a monopoly pharmacy with the insane prices they are posting. Imtra is just a stupid bunch of lazy azz idiots that lives off of the few, incapable of doing some research. Lofrans is a good brand, but Imtra (the importer) is just insane when it comes to parts. Sad really as they could capture significant market share due to their superior products.

I've had similar experiences trying to buy parts for my lofrans. There's definitely a screwed up price policy on their parts. I ended up having my marine guy find a motor that fit. And I fixed my windlass for half the price.

I used eBay. I searched google and then eBay France had what I needed. It wont be here the next day, but a saving of over $500,- just for the motor is worth the wait.

your windlass is on its (at least) 3rd motor and you think it’s a superior product?

Says who?

The windlass itself is superior, the importer of it, not so much.

I'm probably missing your point but windlasses should not be burning through motors like yours seems to. a 'superior' windlass would have a motor that doesn't need to be replaced every few years.

Mine was installed in 2002, only thing I have had to replace is the chain check pawl and spring.

Project 1000 low profile.

Well, France disappointed ( I know, what a shocker), so I overhauled the old motor and putting it back in. Time will tell.....
