Default Furuno TZT3 Best Fishing Charts?

Which chart options offer the best detail and coverage for the TZT3 unit? It looks like there are CMAP and Navionics options.

I like the MapMedia charts on my TzT2. They are also nicely enhanced with the depth shading overlay

I don't see any need to purchase either Navionics or C-Map, the charts it comes with are pretty good. I wish Navionics included sonar charts but right now they aren't available.

What to you mean by sonar chart isnt that what a chart is? In my area the map media charts are ok, but for fishing the navionic charts have much more detail. I bought the navionics ap just for the charts. I suspect the level of detail is different depending on your area.

I actually like the standard MapMedia better than both the Navionics and Cmap 4d I have for the Chesapeake Bay and off the coast of Ocean City Maryland.

No depth shading

Can anyone here tell me SPECIFICALLY what navionics and Cmap charts are available on the tzt3. Is the Navionics the more detailed chart platinum+ ? Are the cmap charts the n+ and can you get the enhanced options like reveal and contour HD? It is bugging the hell out of me that A) this detail is not on Furuno’s website B) that I can not find a distributor with one of these on display so that I can actually see what the hell I am buying. I’m looking to build a system that’s going to run me close to 30 large by the time it’s all said and done and nobody can show me the units and all of the options on it. I’ve watched all the videos they have on these but all they are is marketing hype on why furuno is better than brands x,y & z.

I contacted Furuno tech support and asked them to send me a couple of Navionics screen shots for my area. They were not very detailed- far less than is shown on the Navionics iPhone app.

Now this is just speculation on my part, but with Garmin owning Navionics it would not surprise me if they are making it difficult for Furuno to access their better charts. Given how nice the new TZT3 units are, If I were a Garmin product manager for MFDs Id do everything I could internally to block their access.

Supposedly there is a planned software upgrade for Furuno soon that may have new mapping features. Competition is a great thing.

As much as I like these new Furuno tzt3's the charting leaves a lot to be desired for me. I have been looking at the charting on the Simrad units today and there is a lot more detail offered. As others have stated in another thread I don't want to drop this much money and be looking at my phone for better charts.

I feel you there. I went with the TZ Touch 3 , but yeah, the charts are lame. I have the navionics app on my iphone/ipad showing me the relief shading

I haven't played around with the TZ Touch 3 too much yet as it's not installed permanently on my boat yet, but I am hoping it gets personal bathymetric generation on the latest update, using the navionics charts with sonarchart live using a wider 120 degree swath when combined with DFF3D.. who knows..

I got it for the sounder performance and radar performance. hopefully the charting gets up to speed.

If i have to reverse engineer (aka, completely hack ) a purchaesed CMOR map, and replace all of that data with a purchased Strikelines chart, I'll do the damn thing, but i would rather not have to unleash the cluster farm of computing power on breaking an encryption if i don't have to.

It's all android based so it can be broken relatively easily. I just wish they would allow us to do something like strikelines or navionics easier than this.

I too share the frustration that the detail I get in my iPad and Navionics apps is not mirrored on my TZT3 units. I have spoken to Furuno, i think it really comes down to the economics of licensing. If I was Garmin, I would try and make my charts available to as many manufacturers as I could as the cost of software and margin opportunity would be far greater than what they get in MFDs. I could be wrong, but there are no warranty issues, no dealer issues, etc etc...write the software once and sell the $hit out of it...hoping the update in March incorporates better detail, but I can deal with what i have now given the perofrmance of radar and DFF3D, which I love.

I am guessing that this is the reason they got into bed with Timezero. The problem I see now is that they rushed to get the tzt3 to market to soon. I feel that if they were able to fully integrate the time zero software so that you can operate the software from the mfd and built in the PBG that they would have crushed everyone in their path. I feel like it’s 50% of a good thing .

has anyone actually seen the V2 PBG or is it all just rumor ? are we just waiting for the official announcement?

i'm guessing it needs to be with DFF3D + SCX20 or some other combination of the 3d scanning plus heaving compensation, but perhaps a narrower transducer can do PBG also as long as there is heaving compensation taken into account.

Quick video posted on Facebook of the new software release that is about to come out. Apparently it only works with the TZT3. It won't let me post a link but its on Furuno Fishing Fanatics page.
