Default Tracking Device Selection

Read on here until my head spun about tracking devices. I'm narrowed down to something hardwired with battery backup (so no SPOT) and satellite, not cellular tracking (so no Siren). Also only want tracking, no need for additional fancy features, so not considering GOST. Just want simple, bulletproof monitoring.

AtlasTrax seems to fit the bill, but what's the difference between these two units?

Any others that I should be considering?

The Siren MTC also has a sat tracking option.

My impression was that the Siren derives its position from GPS satellites, but can only communicate with the network via 3G; i.e. if it is out of cellular range, it cannot communicate its position to the network. If this is the case, it won't work for me.

I don't see anything on their website that says different, does anyone know for sure if this is the case?

That looks exactly like the device I posted in my initial two links.

Looks like most of these companies just buy somebody else’s device, put their label on it, and try to sell you the service?

Looking for a unit hardwired into the boat for security, not a personal unit.

Have had atlas trax for a year now and have been very satisfied. Not one issue or any maintenance needed.

This is what the company I work for uses. NMFS requires us to be tracked here in Alaska making sure we don't fish in closed zones, sea lion zones, sea lion no transit zones and whatever else. This is the unit we use for it. It's powered by battery. We're only using the tracking feature but I think there are other options available if you want. Some limited email, weather et cetera. Some come with a screen and keyboard but we don't have that on board...just the unit. The unit is small and mounted in a cabinet out of sight. It transmits to a sat. On shore or wherever you can log on to their website, plug in your password and find where the vessel is at all times. Works very well as far as I can tell and for us it's certified by NMFS. Haven't a clue of the cost but I think it varies depending what type of coverage you want.

Bumping this to the top, still haven't seen something that fits the bill. Reached out to AtlasTrax, got an e-mail replay that they'd get back to me with pricing and info, I sent a follow up and they never got back to me.

My requirements:
-Tracking for theft only. Don't need it for two way communication, someone tracking my trips, etc.
-Must communicate via satellite, not cell networks
-Must be able to hardwire 12V, with it's own battery backup.

Ideas?

Surprised Atlastrax has not been responsive. They have always been very responsive with me. Try Patrice at 954-235-6009

Just get the Garmin Inreach and done with it. It meets all of your criteria. I went through the same thing you are trying to contact all these bootleg companies. Half of them that actually did respond didn't even have a clue how their product even worked. So many shysters and worthless people out there trying to sell these made in Malaysia garbage systems. I'm 4 years in on the Garmin, wouldn't have it any other way.

I also hardwired my Inreach. Very simple to do.

Spot Trace hardwired! just went through the whole selection process. very reliable and easy to install. Got two, one for dinghy and one for boat. Will get another for the fishing boat. way better than GOST which it replaced.

SPOT Trace will run on internal batteries for over a month. When hardwired (with additional cable), I don't know if the internal batteries will act as a backup or not. If they do, then this is the best solution out there for just theft. My wife was able to track me on a recent trip to the Bahamas and she worried far less than usual!
