Default Simrad 4G radar

Almost time to purchase some new electronics, radar included. I recall sometime last fall that Simrad had plans to offer a solid state replacement/upgrade over their current 4G. Now of course, maybe I misread something earlier but IF that is really going to happen maybe I should wait. Comments?

One thing for sure......well at least maybe, I am NOT spending a bucket of bucks for their display/fishfinder. I am thinking of a dedicated fishfinder to use in place of my old unreliable depth finder. As to the monitor/display, I am still searching. Most likely it will be an old touch screen tablet operating on Windows 10 if I can find something that has close to 1000 NITS brightness for a few hundred bucks.

Halo24 was introduced late 2018 and Halo20+ last year. A major upgrade over 4G.

No, they are solid state pulse compression radars.

Not sure You can use their RADAR without their MFD? Also, not saying their new Halo isn't an upgrade to their 4G but The 4G is solid state. I picked up a GO9 XSE/4G bundle for about $2K with the total scan transducer. I know they have an upgraded ducer but I thought the package price was good enough to jump on.

Halo can't be used without a Navico MFD. The 4G could at least previously be used with some PC software, but since I have an overwhelming number of Navico MFD's I've never looked into this.

I just bought a Halo20+ dome for almost the same price as a 4G. Check out ultimate passage, they were a few hundred cheaper than I could find anywhere else.

Never heard of them, but just searched their site and the price on the 20+ has went back up to the same price I’ve been seeing. Must’ve been a flash sale or something. Thanks for the info on the website though.

It wasn't listed as a sale but the price has definitely changed. I saved close to $400 off that posted price.

Wish I had seen it advertised at that price

Yeah, I’ve been shopping around too. The 4G’s have been discontinued and discounted but not enough for me to justify not paying another $500 for the newer technology/features of the 20+. Sure wish I would’ve seen the 20+ for $1800. It’d already be on my boat for that price. Lol!!

I'm sure the 20+ has some major upgrades over the 4G but I find the 4G to be an awesome radar still. Very accurate for me in short ranges. Perhaps I will upgrade someday but it's still more than good enough for now.
