Default Depth readout flashes when at speed.

Rig is old but new to me; Garmin 276C, GDS 20 and Sensor 010-10249-00 80/200kHz sensor from my Garmin 160C, display gave up the ghost.

So everything but the depth when at speed works and real happy with the setup.

Garmins advice is to; a) Alter the frequency to the lowest. I note the although a 80/200 that it offers me 50/200 to switch between. This fix failed to work when set at 50kHz. b) To alter the Gain which failed to work as well. The final piece of advise was to drop the sensor deeper into the water. This I have not yet tried. Currently the bottom of the sensor aligns with the bottom of the hull. I did note that when on the plane that the top of the sensor is clear of the water, should the sensor be fully submerged.

Advise would be welcome.

Transducer can’t read depth if it’s not in the water. That’s definitely the first thing you need to try.

Lower the 'ducer a bit and tilt it so the rear of the 'ducer is slightly lower than the front.

As already written above:
Depth readout flashes if transducer looses contact with bottom, that is normal

The reason for that can be wrong inclination or wrong immersion depth or a combiantion of both
a) your transducer is installed on the wrong position and het turbulence when planing
b) your transducer is to flat or to steep inclined

Start with inclination, lower end of transducer a bit a test, lower again and test, if that not helps then raise the end a bit and try
If nothing of the above helps then lower the transducer in approx 1/10th inch steps, or raise it
A correct installed transducer should read at least at 25 knots own to 100ft

For future reference, you can have someone drive the boat while you look off the transom for the area with the "cleanest" water at speed...then mount it there.

Thanks, first mistake was to assume that the installer installed correctly. A little more googling, checking the original installation and these responses would lead me to believe that the original installation was incorrect. Will remedy during the course of the day and will post the results.

Thanks to all.
