Default Connecting ALternate Garmin Cockpit Display

I am adding an alternate rear cockpit display to compliment / support my primary Garmin 7610xsv. (location as seen in the pic below). My alternate unit will be either a Garmin 7608xsv or a 942xs. My question is about connectivity. Can the unit connect to the main MFD via WiFI or do I need a network cable? Also, I'm at least 15ft to a power source to either the helm or the batteries so is there a power cable I can buy that's 15 or 20 ft? Thanks for any advise..

You will need to connect the alternate MFD to the 7610xsv with both a Garmin Marine Network cable and also connect the alternate MFD to your NMEA2K network. Both Garmin MFD's need to be on the NMEA2K network. You will need to extend the new Garmin MFD's power cable, they do not makes that long a power cord.

WiFi will not network the two Garmin MFD's

So I now have purchased and installed the Garmin 942xs to the rear cockpit bulkhead and have power to it. Tech support from one of the electronics vendors here is telling me that I don't need anything more than the Garmin Marin Network (Ethernet) cable to get the units to talk to each other, share screens and functions, with my primary 7610xsv at the helm doing the work for anything to do with sonar or radar.

Also, I have a portable power source in the house and use that to play around with the new 942xs and to load waypoints. Will the waypoints that I load onto the 942 sinc up with the 7610 xsv via the network cable...and visa versa? Thanks ..

Some data only goes through nmea 2000. You want both.

Can you read that in daylight? Is it waterproof? Is there an easy way to mount it securely?

Waypoints will update between the units and you should connect NMEA2000 to get all data transferred. If we knew everything you had connected to the system I could be of more help in telling you what you're missing out on when it comes to data sharing.

Waterproof case from Amazon and lots of different ways to mount it. My iPad is easy to read at my covered helm in daylight, might be a challenge on an open deck for sure. There are also new lighting schemes that could make it more readable in daylight.
