Default Help needed - how to view Navionics card on PC

All, I recently purchased a Lowrance LCX-111c. My first ever GPS or FF device. I have not purchased a Navionics card yet - but plan to soon. I thought after purchasing the Lowrance and a map card - I would have all I need to view the maps on my home PC - but the more I investigate all this - the more confused I get. I have a feeling I need to shell out more $$$ ... just to look at the maps. Am I right ? I see Lowrance has products like: GPS data manager V6, Mapcreate, Emulators, and card readers and drivers. Navionics has their own card readers. I see this company called Fugawi - and they offer something to view maps. All I want to do - is plug in a map card - and scroll around looking for places to fish and to plan some routes. Sooo - would someone be able to offer advice .... on what products I need to get ... to do this - keeping it as simple and $cheap as possible. Thanks all.

If you have the Lowrance product, you can save waypoints on the same storage device, (like the Scan Disk a camera)...as the Lowrance Globial GPS. The data manager is to view waypoints.

The Create Maps products are the maps from Navonics I think. ( I just bought a 4 year old system last week and am still am learning). The create maps product allows you to look at the maps.

MapCreate is a Lowrance product. You can see all Mapcreate street and lake maps on your pc. You can also make 5 chips with info and change info on those same 5 chips not on anymore chips.

Navionics is not a Lowrance product. You cannot mess with the Chip except to view data on GPS. Any attempt to download data renders chip inaccessible. GEt the Navionics chip for your areas only. Do not attempt to access chip wit Mapcreate or any other software.

My Nav Gold 2 chip does not display streets. Only Marinas and water.

I have both products. They work on Lowrance, Eagle and Humbird.

Navinoics cards can't be read in a normal card reader. They've copy protected the cards so they won't work in a regular reader. You're forced to shell out more money to buy a special reader. And no, they don't have one for a PCMCIA card slot, you're stuck with the external dongle.

What external dongle works with Navionics?

Navionics is distributed on an SD card.

I have the Raymarine A 65. I just take the Silver Navionics CF card out of my unit, take it home to plug it in the Navionics Card Reader and use the free Ray Tech Planner on my PC.

http://www.raymarine.com/raymarine/Default.asp?site=1&Section=2&Page=1535&amp ;Parent=710

But it does simulate the Raymarinedisplays and you probably won'tlike that. You can download the Free Ray Tech Planner and look at it without the detailed Navionics chart before you buy anything

The best way to look at a Navionic map on you're PC is:

1st: download a emulator of you're LCX 110 then get a card reader from LEI,put the Navionic card inside the reader, opend the emulatorand with the emulator you just choose the Navionics map in the menu.

Hope it can help.

Navionics is distributed on an SD card.
They require their own brand card reader. I believe Raymarine also sells one that can read them. Navionics charts come on more than just SD cards. The Platinum one I've got is on a CF card.

The hassle here is if you've got a laptop onboard and you're stuck with having to use their external reader. This means you've got something stuck in the USB port, dangling out the side/back of the unit, instead of safely inside the PCMCIA or existing card reader slot (some laptops have them). It's very irritating to pay all that money for charts only to be treated like you're some sort of thief and forced to buy/use their reader. I'd be less annoyed if they at least had one that didn't require being external to the machine.

I agree with wkearney99, it pissed me off to have to buyaproprietary card reade, but Raymarine told me to take it upwithNavionics it is their Multi Card Reader, Raymarine just sells it.

And to top it off, I have not found a way to transfer the chart onto the PC harddrive you alays have to plug in the card.

My Garmin Blue Chart is loaded on my PC and on my GPS I like that much better.

Sorry about all the garbling on the previous text. I should not be using Mozilla on this forum, Internet Explorer works better here.

The card reader I'm using for my Navionicis isthe card reader I have with my Mapcreate and it can read the Navionic through the Lowrance emulator.

There is no way you can download a Navionic on you're hard drive; doing so you can damage the card. I really like to work with the emulator and the card so I can learn seating confortably in my office and get use with all the functions of my sonar-gps.

M&M, how did you get that to work? I tried running the emulator last night with the card reader, and when I went to pick the maps I did not see my chip in there?

I think the car reader is working because I can navigate to it in explorer and see the data on it.

I'm leaving right now for my work. I will explaining in detail tonight. But sometimes after you choose in the menu: Navionics you have to remove the map from the card reader a few times to get the card and the emulator to run.

I will explain in detail tonight if you still needed.

I always plug my card reader first, then I opend the emulator. Next press menu and choose Map data

Then go for the map menu and choose Navionic. If you're Navionic card is by region select one and bring the cursor over that region and zoom in:
