Default Simrad cx44-e or Furuno 1834c

Looking for new electronics and thinking about Simrad or Furuno.

I like the Simrad CX44-E and Furuno 1834C.

How does the two compare on functionality.

love my CX, furuno is good ( I use it on two other boats that I fish on), but I love my CX. It's just a nicer piece of equipment with more features.

The Furuno will allow you to use two different screens and control them independently. I believe the Simrad second unit is a slave unit.

Furuno 1834C here, forgot the magazine which did a review of the Furuno, Raymarine, etc and Furuno was rated number one.

What additional features does the Simrad have over the Furuno?

two speed radar with 24 v system, (very nice on a fast boat, quicker re-draw)

dual radar screens (for different levels of zoom)

Dual plotter (again different zoom levels, you can work in one screen and navigate with the other)

press the number keypad to select zoom level (love this feature)

easy to access display settings for Bright, Day, Dusk, and Night (which is incredible all black and red, no loss of night vision).

Did I mention it can be paired with the Simrad Combi transducer (the industry standard)

most features are very easy to access with one or two pushes of a button rather than wading through menus.

I feel the display is more vivid (again the night setting is second to nothing ) .

I could go on, but that's a start.

For a little more money you get a lot more machine (IMO).

I haven't experienced anything that needed support, but I do know that Simrad stands by it's products and customers from talking to both people in the industry and other customers.

Again, not bashing Furuno, it is very good stuff and I would not hesitate to own it. For me the Simrad was the choice after closer consideration.

The E is for echosounder. You can buy it with or without.

Simrad all the way.

Thanks - I wasn't familiar with the Simrad radar. The dual screen features sound useful. Furuno has display settings for night etc but don't know how they compare to Simrad. I have a Simrad AP and it's a great product. The support is great - I only needed it for setup - the AP has been flawless since.

Forgivw my ignorance but, are you going to use this instead of having a FF, GPS, and Radar seperate units?
If so what is the advantage of the single unit VS. seperate ones?

I ask B/C I am looking at a mid sized CC and like the idea of one unit but if one goes down it's all down.

Have a Simrad CE33 on my boat (about 5 years now) luv it, But you can't knock Furuno. Customer support was GREAT when I needed a new battery installed, only problem I've ever had. Fishing shallow water is tough with 500+ watts of power, the Nav. screen can be finicky sometimes (beats the he11 out of Raymarine!) though. Have the BIG Airimar transom mount w/ temp & speed that kicks up sometimes on FAST runs in rough water (see pic of my wake) If you start playing w/ the adjustments in manual mode you will be amazed with this machine and the 44 is about 2 steps up from mine. But I DO like Furuno too.

Does anyone know if the Simrad screen updating is faster than the Furuno?

I still haven't found anything as quick as the Standard Horizons.

If my memory serves me correctly, the redraw on the Simrad wasnt fast at all. In fact I dont think I was happy with it at all. Nothing beats a Northstar when it comes to char redraw though

Squid is right about the Northstar, they do draw faster than anything. The Simrad is not like a Northstar, but I've never had to slow down to wait for it either. Of the three functions, the plotter is the weakest.
