Default Garmin 182c to Furuno 600l help Thom

I have hooked the 182c up to the 600 and everything will transfer to the 600 but I see no info on the 182c such as depth or temp, any ideas. I have comm port 1 and 2 set to nmea and think I have the color codes as you said. It is no big deal but you know how it is I want the depth and temp on the 182c, I do not even know where it would show up and that could be the problem as well. One thing that worries me is the 182c is NMEA 2.3 and the Furuno is 2.0 and I thought that could be a problem but I figured I would ask the King before I proceeded any further.
Thanks

Default Garmin 182c to Furuno 600l help Thom

Oh, we should be able to figure this one out.

On the 182C Garmin suggests that Comm Port 1 be used for interface and Port 2 for connection to a Differential receiver, if you use one. We'll do it their way.

Here's the hookup:

Garmin Black to Furuno Black and Furuno Green and to Battery (this makes the connection for the battery for the Garmin and for Data Negative for both input and output for the Furuno)

Garmin Blue to Furuno Yellow (the blue is Garmins Ouput + and theYellow is Furuno's Input +)

Garmin Brown to Furuno White (the Brown is Garmin's Input + and the White is Furuno's Output +)

This uses Garmin's Port 2 for the communications. You might want to check the baud rate on the Garmin to make sure its set at 4800. You will be OK on the version compatability, in that the latest software from Garmin is backwards compatable.

Go look at the individual screen setups on the Garmin to find the list of windows that may be displayed. Water temperature, and speed through the water, are in there. For whatever its worth I used Depth, Speed through the Water, and Water Temperature as my display on top of my Map page. That choice was made because we are trollers at heart and those three things are what I really care about.

I took a look this evening and I have everything wired properly but the 182c does not want to register depth, temp or ground speed. The Garmin is set at 4800 baud rate on comm2, the 600 picks everything up from the 182c with no problem. Got any other ideas, sorry to bother you with this but you are the only guy I know that has a clue what NMEA even means much less figure it out. Thanks very much for your patience.

I also have the nmeain/nmeaout selected at 4800 baud rate on comm2,comm1 is set a none, although I have tried all setups. Sorry for the confusion there.
Thanks again

Does everyone have this worked out? I am going down to my boat tomorrow to install my 182C and try to make the connection to my existing 600L. I am printing out this thread to take with me because it makes much more sense than the installation instructions that came with the units.

Black to Black, Green to Yellow... Yeah, I can do that I sure appreciate all this help. Anything I can do to cut costs on this "hobby" of ours is really great.
