Default Whats the best battery charger

I would like to install a battery charger in my 21' CC. Which is the best, I have two batteries. I would only like to do this once, so top quality. Thanks

I'm leaning towards the Guest 2620A. 20 AMPS, two outputs 10/10 amps per output. Any pro's and cons on this unit?

I think the top rated charger by PowerBoat Reports is a Newmar or Mastervolt. I use ProMariners.

I wouldn't call it the best, but the Minn Kota Chargers are excellent!

PS - there are very few things you do once in a boat. I don't believe any battery charger will last forever...

I've had the same unit for about 8 months now and have not had any issues. Simple to use and set up.

Dual Pro makes good chargers. I have a 2-bank on my 19'cc that I really like.

That was a little bit quick. The "best" battery charger is probably something from Newmar. But it's high-end marine grade stuff, not for everyone, not cheap. Guest is good quality recreational stuff, tho Xantrex products (chargers/inverts) are probably a step up from there.

The biggest issue I have with most chargers is that they are under powered. As I recall, Newmar was the only manfr that had more realistic specs for proper batt charging. Whatever, to each their own.

I noticed the Newmar chargers were on the larger size. I just stopped by a marine electronics store to compare the two brands. With a 21' CC I dont have a lot of room. Still haven't purchased the charger yet!! I would rather have the best unit possible for my size boat. Still open to suggestions.

I have been very pleased w/ my Pro Mariner ProTournament 100. Dual bank and they make extension cables and other accessories if you need them. I have a single engine, dual battery 20' cc. These are fairly small and lightweight - 6lbs I think.

Take a look at these:

http://www.newmarpower.com/batterych...argersabc.html

http://www.xantrex.com/web/id/69/p/1/pt/7/product.asp

Donít worry about a 3 bank charger vs 2 bank. You donít have to use that 3rd leg if you donít need it.

Itís interesting to compare Newmarís output ratings with all the other charger manufacturers. If Newmar doesnít work for you Iíd be looking at the Xantrex Truecharge 20+ or the 40+ if you have grp 31 or larger batts. Also, donít under-estimate the value of the temp sensing option. I have it, recommend you get it, too. It regulates the chargers output relative to the battís temp for an optimal charging profile.

Also, you may want to look at the sellers here on the forum. Their pricing can be the best you will find and they are extremely helpful.

That is what I put in my boat...
