Some advice I got when I reconfigured my electronics which I think was good:

See how you operate the boat the most when you're underway-stand, lean or sit-to determine your line of sight. Put items that you need to navigate in or close to this line of site. This is so you don't need to keep moving your head around and taking your eyes from watching where you are going. (You will need to dim these electronics at night to get your night vision)

On mine, I ended up putting the radar, chartplotter, autopilot and a digital depth sounder on the dash in my seated line of site, which is how I mainly operate the boat when crusing/going to the grounds. Fishfinder, vhf and fm in the electronics box. This setup has worked out well for me.

Great info..... I never understood how so many people put their radar and chartplotter up there? They must all have stiff necks!!!!!!! Limit that area for stuff like VHFs, Stereos, and general dry storage........

chris has it correct - only things in the upper box that need an occaisional look - not stuff you use to navigate/run...otherwise get stock in ben-gay for your neck...

Some electronics that I can't view for long without getting a sore neck (radar, vhf, am/fm) and a bunch of junk that falls out everytime I make a good holeshot.

I'm not much of a fan of electronics boxes.

Mine has a door on it so my junk doesn't fall out.

VHF, Stereo, Audio-in jack, 12V cigarette receptacle all mounted in a starboard panel that uses about 2/3 of the box's width. In the remaining third I have a tupperware container with cover that's velcroed down and holds miscellaneous stuff that I want to keep dry (iPod, wallet, phone, keys etc.)

Also, hidden behind the starboard is a small compressor for an air horn up top.

Still setting up the contender and have really struggled with this. I replaced the dated GPS with a bigger color screen and bought a furuno 620 as a fishfinder. So I have a dated GPS, new GPS, 2 VHFs, a CD player, and a dated radar. I only have enough room for the GPS and either the fishfinder or radar on the dash. We do a fair amount of bottom fishing so right now the fishfinder is on the dash with the GPS. Everything else is in the radio box. The radar is a dome so it will really only be used for running out in the morning and not for bird searching. I hope this is the right decision but time will tell if I have to redo everything.
