Default Check my homework

My ‘04 Glacier Bay has a Garmin gpsmap6212 and a Furuno FCV-585 sounder connected to a Airmar B164 through-hull transducer with a 10-pin cable.

I need to to replace the FCV-585. The transducer is fine and would like to keep. I mostly troll for pelagics off east central Florida, but on occasion we bottom fish in 50-250’.

Thinking about pulling the FCV-585 and putting in a Garmin 942xs. I would have to use a converter for the transducer 010-11613-00 to get the 10-pin down to 8 and a Garmin marine network cable so it can talk to my 6212.

The Airmar site says the B164 is compatible with the Garmin XS series.

Solid plan?

I have a 942 xs, nice plotter with a P319 thru hull, use only in shallow water. Plotter is compatible with traditional and chirp.

If you already have a unit for charts...I personally think the Furuno FCV 588 with the B164 will give far better results...than using the built in 50/200 k circuit of the Garmin 942xs.
The built in 1 kw CHIRP of the 942xs is very good..but the to get the best out of the B164...I think the FCV 588 is a far better unit.

Hard to beat the Furuno's traditional 50/200 k sonar circuit in the FCV 588.

But...if you later plan to upgrade to a B175..the the Garmin 942xs is a good path to take.
