Default Help! Garmin dying!

Hello friend,
I am in the need of a fish finder, and a GPS now that my Garmin 185 sounder is dying. I was going to wait and get a new setup in a about 2 months but I might have to settle for something now thats a little cheaper.

I was just wondering your suggestions on Electronics. I will be doing alot of bottom fishing in 90-250 ft of water. Should I get a combo unit? and what brand? Most everyone say Garmin.. But I want some decent fish finding power aswell. Black and white is ok, but i prefer the color, or the greyscale units.
cost (hopefully) around 500-800 dollars..( I know thats not much, grrrr I need a part time job ha)

thanks. And if you think it would be better to wait a month or so and spend a little more then let me know aswell.

cheers

Well, for serious bottom fishing you would want 2 diffrent unit's and big screen's. You price range will not allow for this. Your in the neighborhood of a Garmin 498C.

I just bought one and waiting on delivery, but this is going on my inshore boat.

Maybe I could buy just a FF now and use a handheld, and oldergarmin gps (dying but still has some life) and then in a month of two get a GPS?

I was looking at the 498c's and thats what I like the most as of now unless some one can change my mind.

You can find Garmin 2006 on closeout for fairly cheap right now.

I got the 498C today. I've been playing with it. It's OK, but I sure like my 2006C much better.
