Default S1000 operation query

I have recently installed a Raymarine S1000 autopilot. After reading heaps of threads on the pro's and con's of the uit I dived in and bought the unit. I'm interfacing it with a Garmin 182C and was confident that the GPS sent the required sentences and that the two unit's would tango. I deviated from the standard install by placing the hydraulic pump at the stern of the boat as I knew that the thing would sound like a bull horn, I was correct!. On the inital trial run the AP went through it's learning setup, but with less than smooth conditions I called it a day. On the second test outing the pump packed it in, seems the motor was turning but it wasn't getting to the pump bit. One week lated Iv'e had it out again in less than smooth conditions, it tracks and sort of follows a GPS route but I can't get it into trolling patterns mode. I have been playing with the unit whilst the boats on it's trailer and have found that the way the manual describes putting it into a troll pattern is differant to the way my unit works. If I want the AP to go into a cloverleaf pattern I have to go MODE>Auto, then Pilot, then Mode>and choose a pattern followed by PILOT.
Pattern size can be varied by the keys. Nothing like the bloody manual....
Goto say that I have put all my knowledge of Electronics and IT into this one, hell knows what a chap without those skills is suppose to get the darn thing to work. Lets have you comments.

I cannot address your question directly, but need to give kudos to Raymarine's Tech support. Call them up, I bet they can help you in a jiffy.

One slight problem, I'm in Australia. Raymarine is handled by Oceantalk. Like most companies they are happy to sell you their product, but when it comes to after sales forget it. That's why these web sites are so popular.
