The 600 has a history of fogging. Ray is aware of it but I'm not sure if they have taken care of it or not. Sorry can't provide comparison. Capt. George

My 500 fogged at first. Sent it back to Raymarine for repair in December, 2004. Never had a problem with fogging since then. I'm very pleased with the performance after the repairs.

The only differences I can see between the 500 and 600 are size, price and shape. Some people prefer the square design of the 600. It looks more like the units designed for larger offshore boats. For some reason Raymarine decided the smaller units should look like the competitor's models often found on bass boats. I'll admit that I wish my 500 was square like my Garmin GPS. I hate the unnecessary curved lines. I wasn't willing to pay an extra $275 - $300 for the differences so I went with the 500.
