Default Garmin 178c Programming

I did a search on this subject and got quite a bit of good information. However, before I start ordering I want to make sure I'm doing this right.

I just bought a Garmin 178c and want to get the accessories needed for maps and programming. It looks like I need the data management kit with a memory card. My real question is on the maps. If I buy the Americas BLUECHART CD, does that come with an unlock code for one region? Can I then buy additional unlock codes as I need them. I primarily fish inshore for Redfish on the SE coast. So the first map region I will need is from Norfolk to Charleston. However, in Nov I will be fishing a Redfish tournament in Panama City, FL. So I will need to be able to update to that region when the time comes.

Any help would be appreciated.

Yes that's correct. I have the 172C and the data management kit comes with a USB card reader, blank card and Garmin waypoint and trip manager. If you are going for the charts on a CD and not the Pre programmed then get a second blank card to download, edit and upload your waypoints. In my case I just have a pre programmed chart and the data management kit

One more thing you should know about Garim maps. You can only unlock them for 2 units.... period. If you have one on your boat and say a handheld and you lose your handheld you have to buy the maps again if you replace it with a Garmin unit. Or if you had 3 garmin units you would have to buy 2 sets of maps.

The data management kit already comes with a card so you don't need another.
