Default RE: Garmin 188

thi sis the monochrome unit....i have a few questions if you don't mind...
1. i have a center console boat and is it better to mount the transducer to the transome or shoot it thru the hull

2. on the gps....how does it show up going to a destination and then retracking it as going back to that way point? is it just a compass heading line you follow or is ther someother type of picture representation as to following a route.
it comes with a 50/200 khz transducer i forgot to mention

3. is the slot ofr a external card propritary to garmin or can u use any card out there also is it proprietary to just garmin maps or can i use others on the market like what lowrance etc use? it doesnt come with a card so thats why i am asking...if it's propritary to just garmin stuff how accessible is the stuff and how good is it...i am use dot hot maps map create etc

4. Not to sound stupid....but it says it is a sounder, chartplotting receiver and depth finder...what is a chartplotter and sounder?

i currently have a cheap eagle 320 fishelite and its driving me crazy especially wiht the gps end of it just an arrow etc...

thank you for your help in advance....

gary
