Default hummingbird

I am looking into buying the 987c2 and have heard there are problems with map create etc and hummingbird doesn't know the answer. Does anyone have any feed back about this unit. it will be used mostly in fresh water bass fishing. My other choice may be a lowrance 337 or 339 but i need some input from you experts. I currently have the eagle fishelite 320 real crappy gps and monochrome.
This will be used in a center console boat if that is anything u need to know. At times i will take this boat in the ocean to do fishing if that is a consideration.

thanks for your help in adnvance!

Humminbird has a software update as a fix for the problem it had displaying some of the charts on some Navionics 2006 chips. The Navionics Hot Maps for Fresh Water is over 8000 Lakes and Ponds broken down in 5 regions chips. There is a rebate of $50 on a $149 Region chip right now,see Navionics web site for details. From what i have seen with the NE region chip, its well worth the $$$.
