Default Raymarine Screen Scratches & Blotches

Has anyone removed the anti-glare coating on the Raymarine screens if so what is the impact?

Can you remove the anti-glare and replace with one of the custom liners that Glen e recommends?

I was so careful with mine that I have no confidence that if I get it replaced it will last.

From Raymarine, I had the same problem. Clean coating off with Novis plastic cleaner #2 and polish with novis #1. I havent tried it yet but I will report back here after its done.

Danny, Is there any supplier of Plastic in Bermuda? Company that sells Plexiglas or Lucite. If so they should carry the Novis brand product. Its available in 3 types but you need only #2 and # 1

Jerry,

Their are suppliers I will check. I suspect this will remove the anti-glare, what do you think the impact will be in viewing in sunlight.

Glen,

Thanks not really sure I should take it off without knowing the impact. Does the screen cover you use have anti-glare. Perahps I can take it off and put one of those screen savers on.

I wouldn't try Windex with amonia for two reasons, 1) Raymarine told me in an email to use the Novis polish method. 2) Although the Windex might work, if the screen is acrylic plastic, the affect of the ammonia on the acrylic will cause it to craze over time. Crazing is the millions of internal scratches you see when the sun reflects off of the screen. I will use Novis on mine and add a mat finish static cling film over the screen. I wont know how it looks untill maybe next week as my boat is in the keys and I am in miami untill next saturday 10/15. PS. I am a high school plastics teacher........for 43 years.

Point taken - this was what garmin tech support told me to do for my screen if I wanted it off...yes the navprotector films are very anti-reflective and work very well - after a week or so you fotrget it's there but will come off without any hestaion of problem. What I like is the abilty to touch the screen with fish goop or grease all over my fingers and have it wipe right off with and normal cleaning agent - I use a microfiber towel and computer display screen cleaner which works perfect. I highly recommend navprotector...was a purplemoo user, not I'm a convert....

PM Jim Z - he has navprotectors over his dual e120's ....

I did what jerry did.The screen is perfect and honestly there does not seem to be any glare at all.I was really careful with the antiglare but I could not deal with the scratches.Running at night I felt the scratches hindered small or weak targets on the radar.I don't think I'll put the screen protector on, for now I like the screen as is.

I just removed the anti glare from my three E-120's (I used 3M cleaner wax).. the screens looks much better but there are some glare issues. Where can I get the mat finish static cling material and has anyone used it ?

Why would you want to remove the anti glare cover on a Raymarine E-120.
I have a new 120 and am not familiar with a cover on the screen that comes with the unit.

Do you have to remove the factorry anti glare cover before you put the "Navportector" screen cover on?
thanks
