Default Raymarine C80 won't start

I'm using a Raymarine c80 display on the fly of my 38 cruiser. Bought it new from Consumers Marine in April 05.

Trouble-free until earlier this year (06) when the c80 display simply decided not to power up. Which was a problem, because I'm in Western Australia, which meant I had to ship it half way around the world the the Raymarine factory so they could fix it under warranty.

They did that fine, and shipped it back to me, and it's been working beautifully for several months...until this morning, when it wouldn't power up yet again!

I've checked everything, voltage to the unit is 13 volts, the led is flashing green on the digital box.

This is driving me nuts, specially since I'm faced with having to ship the thing to Raymarine yet again and not having it for however long they take to fix it again.

Has anybody heard of similar problems with this unit?

It's not as if it can be taken apart by the local dealer, it's a sealed unit. (However, he did point out that had I bought it locally - at nearly twice the price! - he would have been able to swap it for me....) Grrr.

Any help would be appreciated.

Greg

Maybe a couple more things worth noting. I was out fishing all day yesterday and finally switched the display off about 8pm last night, and went to bed at the mooring, leaving the display unit all plugged in and ready to go this morning.

I don't have radar, just GPS and sounder into this unit.

I think the DSM is a 300. I'm sure it's the display, not the DSM, as it's exactly the same problem as earlier this year.

gmilner, Sorry to hear of yet another victim of Maymarine. Do a search and you will find many others with the same problem. Maymarine will blame it on your boat, installation, or anything else they can come up with but won't admit they have equipment problems. Good luck. Capt. George

Hello there!
I hitchiked thrue Oz many years ago. Nice place! Not to many cars though at the most remote areas.
I have an C80 aswell. No problems with it in the beginning, but when upgrading the software the machine started playing games with me. Turning it self on and off whenever, aso.
I was told to just reboote the machine and i did. Some small issues after that, but they are sorted out now. You'll find the instructions to reboot the machine in the manual.
If it's completely shut down i have no clue what can have caused that. Some internal fuse blown a cable come off somewhere? Moist? I have read that some of raymarine c models aren't waterproof depending on faulty gaskets or sealings. You have your summer ahead and i guess you want the stuff to work when the fishing is good, so maybe you just have to send it away to have it fixed. I'll by a garmin next time!

I haq a boat with a C80 that I had to pop out the fuse, then re-install the fuse and she'd fire up and work. There was a software upgrade that seemed to cure all of my problems. It was easy to do and worth a few minutes of your time.
