ok - no matter if you have put big money in your car or boat...when skeptical/smirking/non beleivers get in the boat/car and you wanna blowthem away ...what do you play?

I play - "spanish moon" - Little Feat - Album: "Waiting for Columbus"

how about you?

Glen,

My fav for the purpose you described is Movin' On by Gary Moore (CD is Still Got the Blues). Play it LOUD.

My other tune for the 'impression' purpose is Hey You by Pink Floyd.

Very crisp and clean, and the low tones of the acoustics still resonate through. Or something like that

Big Al
we have noise ordinances, to which I reply to the nice officer "it's not noise, its music".

Boat stereo, home stereo, car stereo or home theater system? Dire Straits...anything from Brother in Arms...Money for Nothing, So Far Away, Sultains of Swing are all awesome. For the theater setup I really like some of the Pink Floyd stuff and especially something from Roger Waters "In the Flesh". I was shocked when I saw a demo with Sledgehammer from Peter Gabriel from a DVD of his. I have it but forget the name of it....really impressive to say the least.

I find it's gotta be clean music, nothing too crazy....powerful clean drums, a blistering guitar is nice (Gilmour) and I happen to like a nice clean crisp ride on the cymbil. Shine on you crazy diamond, learning to fly, comfortable numb are about my all around favs to show off my stuff.

nope - just listened to all of knoffler's stuff and I agree he is a god but not enuf punch for non - audiophiles...need a few songs from (retch) stuff on the radio that every one has heard....

kinda thinking of foreigner/bad company stuff.....that genre....or if under 30, maroon 5 works great.....

I like "she came in thru the bathroom window" but most of my wife's age (40) looks at me like have two heads...

what a shame....

Glen, I hear ya!
Most awesome live band I have ever heard in 30+ years of concert going was Little Feat shortly before Lowell George died. Best band together I have ever heard live. And I have seen some good shows.

I still love Waiting for Columbus.
Went to see the new version of Little Feat a few years back, and it was a good show, but nothing like the original.

Interesting that Frank Zappa told Lowell he was too good for the Mothers of Invention and to go form his own band. The begining of Little Feat.

Still love some original Who - Quadraphenia - for effect.

Lowell george, bonnie and Eric....best slides I've ever heard...I know there are more...like knoffler..but nevermind that...let's get to the best 10 songs to show off a system in the year 2006. Here are the ground rules:

1, no one in the boat knows more about music than being in bars within the last 5 years
2. they are born between 66 and 80....

I went out and bought Little Feat waiting for columbus due to all of the praise on ths site and I haven't fallen in love with it yet. Def a great live album but maybe because I don't know the songs that well I'm not nuts about the cd yet.

Glen with 5400+ songs you ought to find something good. I will check my 300+ cd collection and itunes and see if I forgot anything....I know Alan Parsons Project has some great sounding songs....as does Journey.

listen to spanish moon and dixie chicken a few times....it'll grow on you..(double drums!) especailly with Tower of Power horns section backing them up...play it loud....guess I just love it as I love dixieland jazz...my dad played for glenn miller (whom I'm named after) and played burbon street for a couple years...watch the movie "glenn miller story" - when the trumpet player busted his lip and they decided to use coronets to make "the sound" - my dad was playing drums then...pretty cool...
