Default Dual garmin data - resetting both on one

I have two Garmin 1040s on my boat. When I go to turn one of the off it says 'turn entire system off?' and both shut down.

But when I reset trips - or refuel the boat - I have to do that on both units. Is there a way to set them to both reset?

Do you have the units connected via an "ethernet" ("Garmin Marine Network") cable,
AND also on the same NMEA backbone?

older units had a setting to be selected -
"User Data Sharing" set to "on" - in both units

NMEA yes - I'll check about the ethernet connection.

Operator error.... they communicate. Thinking maybe when I filled up I turned one on and reset it quick before the other fired up (maybe).
