Default An open apology to many marine audio owners

Sitting on the back of my boat –in the lift – tonight after dark and just listening to some Skaggs and Allmans (loud & sober -lol) and I’ve realized I’ve made a mistake…not everyone needs amps and high end speakers…..

Depends on what you need……No effete attitude intended, I can’t fish for sh**

Are you an audiophile or not?…meaning while you’re anchored, will you just sit and really listen? (e,g,while the kids are swimming)…or is it background?

if you are a background person...or a booze cruise person, a lot less will do….

I like a Sony or clarion head unit and infinity’s myself…..

Glenn,
Thanks for the down to earth comment.
I have a Sony – Infinity combo on my boat and it’s a great price performance value.
I’ll hint my age in saying that years ago one had to dish out big bucs for home
hi fidelity, like the days of Macintosh amps, Thorens turntables, and Bose 901 speakers. In contrast now a days one can purchase awesome home sound for $500 that would have went $2K back then. A major win for technology where advancements have made things more affordable for many. Now if only outboard manufacturers could do that!

The guy who buys a $110k Porsche will tell all his buddies how he's got one of the best cars ever made.. and of course he's right.

But $15k will buy you a 1999 Camaro and a blower, and leave the porsche owner scraping little bits of melted tire off his windshield.

They both get the job done - it's all about how you want to spend your $ and what your expectations are.

This is what I call redneck economics. The cheaper your stuff is, the more stuff you can buy!

Thorens turntables....

man I have not heard that name in 30 years - remember when dual and JBL were top of the line names for turntables and speakers?

No sweat Glen. I hope to be there with you by next spring as I start on the toys for the boat. Haven't made up my mind yet on what I want to do...but need to get video feed up to the 2 E-120's. Wired remote is key as well.

If this is true and you were sober, we need to talk

Is a head unit necessary anymore ? Why not an ipod, an amp & speakers ?

He probably was listening to his Ipod loaded with all that great music. Search around for Glen's posts re: his electronics. He has an awesome
set-up and has shared many pictures and posts about them. I just wish I was half as interested in doing some of the stuff Glen has done with his
boat and electronics. If he wants to sit on the boat after dark and sober, let him do it, he has earned it. Just so it doesn't become a habit.

If I want to hear music I enjoy I simply crank up the Optis.

Hey Glen, you got me interested in using my XM unit on my boat so I rigged the marine cradle two winters ago. To this day I haven't brought my XM radio from the car and used it on the boat. I guess some folks are just not meant to be cool.

SNIP
Very True
However, the Porsche does stand a better chance of making the curve at the end of the straightaway

Hey Glen,

Does that mean there is something wrong with your JL speakers?

If you were going to be replacing your speakers anyway would you install the JLs
