Default Lowrance 337cdf--frustation at its worst

I have a 337cdf which i purchased new a year ago when I purchased my boat. I thought lowrance was a quality product but now I'm not so sure. But let me start at the beginning. First I had the transducer stop reading water temp, called customer service no problem they will send out a new one -- oops they sent the wrong one a single freq. instead of dual. Called back -- no problem sent correct one. Took boat to montauk and had gps unit constantly go on and off. Called c.s. was asked if there was radar nearby because the unit i have didn't have the newest software radar will cause interference, anyone familar with montauk knows the radar towers. Was sent a software upgrade to the unit. Next problem the unit took on a life of its own -- it would turn itself on after i turned it off, the first time happening in the middle of the night killing my battery. Sent it back -- could not be repaired sent new unit. Now one month later unit suddenly switches to the darkest screen setting and cannot be shut off -- another call to c.s. and i received the third unit yesterday . WTF --cust service says they are not aware of any problems with the unit.Huh I find it hard to believe that I am the one lucky sole to be having these issues. Besides i ask if there are no problems how is it that you have refurbished units to send me ???? Customer service has always been helpfull but at what point is a unit acknowledged to have problems. Anyone else having issues with this unit ?? Rich D

I have a 332; same unit but single freq. No problems at all (so far, anyways; been about a year and a half.)

Good luck;

The whole long story is posted elsewhere but the long and the short is that you are not alone at least in the general experience.

Went through three new LMS 334's and two LMS 332's before I had a working system.

Now that I have a working system it's great but it was a long frustrating experience getting there with the excellent Lowrance customer service people being the only thing keeping me from going off the deep end with lowrance. Blew most of the fishing season getting things running right.

Please keep us updated on your saga.

I am looking at the 337CDF or the 339 CDF for myself this winter. If it is a POS, I'll have to start looking again.

I have the 339i. The sonar function works fine but the GPS...forget it! I had to shut the GPS alarm off due to it loosing positon. I'm not exagerating when I tell you it was going in and out every 10-15 seconds. Fortunately it's not my primary GPS.

A short synopsis of the problems I had.

The first 334 would take forever to get a lock then would not hold it. Apparently a know problem.

The second and third would get a lock and hold it but start losing it after five or six hours of operation.

The first 332 FF and GPS functions would work but the display would turn off and on rapidly.

The fifth unit is working fine.

There is one small issue with the ep 10 fuel flow unit that has cropped up that I am going to get hold of Lowrance about. When I set shut the unit down and set up a drift I have been noticing that if there is any kind of sea running the unit show a fuel flow. It's annoying since it degrades the usefulness of the unit as an accurate fuel consumption instrument.

Other then that I am now very happy with the 332 it's self and Lowrance customer service has been excellent through out the ordeal.

I've had a 335cdf since they first came out. The only problem I ever had was when a 55' cruiser with radar blasting came alongside to transfer some helpers to another boat. CS understood the error msg.. and when I described the situation they had a new GPS antenna over night to me. Plugged that in and have no problems. WAAS drops in and out depending on train trestles, or other obstructions, but its usually back in a second or two.

I think many of the problems are self induced and have to do with proxmity of items and how there are mounted. I know I can do a better job of mounting the GPS hockey puck but I love the unit. see - http://sempreveloce.tripod.com/id2.html
and you can see how I have my unit mounted.

I have the 337 df and really like it alot. Have had it for 2yrs. with no problems (YET) I am still learning to use all the features. My gps antenna is mounted away from everything else and is also mounted on a short pole (about 4") on top of the hardtop. I have not had any problems with losing signal. Hope this helps.

Well i've receive my 3rd unit and went out the other day and guess what. Yup thats right looks like we'll be moving on to unit number 4. This time the unit turns itself on and off in the blink of an eye defaulting back to a zoomed out map of the whole u U.S. even though I was in sonar mode. I am going to start yelling with customer service that I want them to buy this pos back. I can't take it anymore

Sorry to hear about all of the trouble with your 337. How is the unit wired to power? I have heard that some of those problems will go away if you run power directly to battery with a switch to turn it on and off (don't rely on the on/off on the unit).

FWIW, I have the same unit and haven't had any problems at all.

Good luck!
