Generally speaking if you need an EPIRB it means you are in serious trouble. If it were me, I would not go for the lowest bidder. If only needed for 1 season, it can always be resold

I didnt really mean it like that. I am looking for the best place to buy one, there are vendors here that sell electronics at a discount for THT etc. I will be needing it for many years to come and hope to never use it, but I would like a quality EPIRB, and with technology advancing every year someone may have greater knowledge regarding brands and models.

Most ACR EPIRB’s sell at a minimum retail price- as set by the manufacturer.

So if someone is selling for less, then they may not be an authorized dealer, since most dealers wouldn’t want to loose their dealership over a few dollars.

One of the least expensive good units is as mentioned above, the ACR 2831 is a Category ii unit with a 10 year user replaceable battery, sells for $449.95

Why do people always say this in regards to safety gear? Is the same EPIRB better if you pay $50 more for it? Should I have waited for the Overton's 40% off sale to end, and pay an extra $100 before I bought my Mustang HIT?
mdees88 and Ratherbfi5hin like this.
